I Am SM Woman Event (June 15, 2016)

This is the new SM Woman! I think we kind of can call SM Woman as the wind beneath our wings because I think that given SM's long standing history in the country, there have been so many instances in our lives that were made better, or more fabulous for that matter, because of clothes from SM. I myself have so many pairs of jeans, shirts, and all sorts of stuff from SM Department store. And while we of course think of SM department stores as the best place to get a lot of brands, now, more than ever, their house brand is becoming more and more expansive with selections. Expansive actually has several meanings in this sense. They are taking on more and more styles, making clothes for more and more kinds of figures, and are making garments that work for more and more of today's working women.

To celebrate and announce all that has happened, they invited members of the media to a fashion show and shopping party last June 15, 2016 at SM Makati.

My Current 2016 Zalora Wishlist

It's that time of the year when no one will really hear out a wish list, but I don't really care I'll do it anyways because there are just sooo many thiiings I want from Zalora! Okay so I know the immediate question that comes to mind is like why do I have to make this wish list why don't I just go ahead and buy these and not make this wish list anymore? I wish I could easily do that had it not been for my current wishlist already amounting to like more than Php10,000! You guys know that Zalora just has so many things for sale that it's really impossible to get just one thing for a transaction.

I'll be leaving the link to each item in my wish list in case you guys want to buy it now. I'm just not sure if you can get through the whole list without buying everything hahaha.

So, let's get started!

My Puritan's Pride Loot

If you guys needed one more supplements brand to be in the country, rejoice, for Puritan's Pride is here!

I know that when it comes to supplements, people want more choices because people's needs for supplements can be very diverse. There will be allergies that will restrict the choices of some, rare finds of others that will make them wish that their needs weren't so hard to find, and of course there will simply be people who really are looking into new and interesting supplements to try. I personally do take supplements every single day, which is why I agreed when the brand asked if they could send over the package. It wouldn't be hypocrisy if ever because I have been religiously taking supplements every single day for like ten years now.

Liese Creamy Bubble Hair Color (Antique Rose) Review

Hey guys! So this is one of those archived posts that just never made it to the blog till now. These are photos of my experience with Liese Creamy Bubble Hair color in the shade of Antique Rose. This shade, unfortunately, still isn't in the Philippines, but you can still be happy as the brand in general is now in our soil!

Liese Creamy Bubble Color Launch (June 7, 2016)

Weeee! Liese is now in the Philippines! There were a lot of squeals from my friends as a lot of them are so excited to finally have Liese here. So for you guys who are hearing about this for the first time, Liese is a hair brand by Japanese giant Kao that makes hair color and hair treatments and sprays. This event marks the launch of the entry of their hair dye products to the Philippines.

There are different reasons why girls in East Asia love Liese hair color. Some love the brand because it's affordable relative to competitors. I have friends who like it because they have waist length hair and can get away with using just one box of this per dye session. I also have friends who like it because their hair is evenly dyed every time. And then there are some who like it because it is easy to use and can be used even without someone looking at the back of your head.

I've used this brand three times already in the past two years. For me, I personally like it because the colors get onto the hair very vividly and for my chemically resistant hair, this is a godsend.

So they held their event at Whitespace. It's my first time to go here and I never thought the actual event venue was intimate! I thought it'd be SMX gigantic levels hahaha.

My Oh My Bag Accessories

Hey guys! So I got some Oh My Bag handle wraps for my mom (I personally don't need it because I just have like 3 handbags in a closet full of backpacks and school bags hahaha) because I thought she'd like them.

Here's what she did with them. They are handle wraps legally, but since they're basically pretty ribbons, they can be turned into other designs for bags. You can make them into bows, roses, or obi shapes if you will.  You can also apply furoshiki concepts to these to get different looks. The possibilities are endless. And what's amusing is that they may be technically just ribbons, but they can really give a new flavor to the way a bag looks. You can totally change up the look of your bag without doing much.

So for those wondering I got these at www.ohmybag.com.ph

Céleteque Dermobeautiful 10th Anniversary Event (June 2, 2016)

Happy 10 years, Céleteque! I am actually surprised that they've only been around for ten years because the brand is such an institution already that it feels like it's been there for much longer than that.

I'm in awe of Unilab because by having their own events place (which other people rent out for a lot of other events), I think that they were really able to pull off their mystery mission set up and provide bloggers with decent space to roam in. This is where PANAF has already done their student competitions, and it can seat like 500 people if at full capacity, so the spaciousness was great.

L'Oréal Collection Star by Naomi (Jasmine) Lipstick Review and Swatches

Hello everyone! So welcome to Mari's dream! Yes, you're inside my dream because if I were to create a lipstick collection, this would be it. You guys know hoooow much I love pink lipsticks that when L'Oréal released their Velvet Pinks collection I just went wild with giddiness. I wear pink lipsticks everyday, save for like the 0.1% of the year when I'm in a red lipstick. But the 99.9% really goes to a pink lipstick or lip balm or lip gloss. I think the feelings of giddiness were intensified by the fact that these lipsticks were sent with super beautiful (and expensive oh my goodness) Ecuadorian roses of Petalier

You may have already seen the press release for L'Oréal's La Vie En Rose Velvet Pinks Collection Star Color Riche Lipstcks collection (whew what a mouthful!), with the campaign being hashtagged #IChoosePinks because this whole collection is meant to cover all kinds of pinks to make sure that every Pinay has a pink that she can relate to and would be comfortable rocking out. L'Oréal knows that deep inside, every girl wants to wear pink lipsticks, but sometimes the fear of looking childish or the fear of looking weird with pink gets in the way of getting tickled pink.

So this post in specific is about Collection Star Naomi, or Jasmine

L'Oréal Collection Star by Blake (Primrose) Lipstick Review and Swatches

Hello everyone! So welcome back to Mari's dream! Yes, you're still inside my dream because if I were to create a lipstick collection, this would be it.

So this post in specific is about Collection Star Blake, or Primrose

So this is how the packaging looks like. Since this came in a pretty box with the six other lipsticks in a fancy manner, this unfortunately came unsealed and therefore I have no ingredients lists for this collection. But well, in exchange for the ingredients list I got Ecuadorian roses for the first time in my life (and they're now potpourri in our living room), so that's fair.

In our territory its other name is Primrose, but I think in other territories even the bottom of the lipstick will say Blake, too.

I already own 11 of these lipsticks and I can really say that the packaging is a lifesaver. In real life, L'Oréal is very good in making these plastic squares in colors that are very true to the actual lipstick. So even if they're side by side, you can still tell by the plastic tile as to which shade is which. It's relatively easy to look for what you're looking for in a short amount of time. The signature of the celebrity on the packaging also helps so much because when I am rushing to get somewhere, simply knowing which celebrity made which shade is already enough because I just look for what I want based on the signature.

For this shade, this is a baby coral pink, but the coral is a tiny tiny touch to the whole ensemble. Upon visual inspection, between this and Aishwarya, you'd need to look a little bit closer to tell the two apart.

But when you see the swatch already, you'd see that this is warmer and a tiny little bit darker compared to Aishwarya. However, the two of them have neon touches (although not as crazy of a neon as Doutzen), so if you're choosing between Blake and Aishwarya if ever, there'd just be a very fine line between them.

This is how it looks like on the lips. So this, and all the other shades in the Color Riche collection, have the ability to be so buildable. You can use this as thinly as tint, or you can pile it on as thickly as you want to make it emulate the effect of a liquid lipstick. For this photo, I have it put on relatively thickly for it to be opaque enough, but not too thickly for it to behave as liquid lipstick altogether. In real life, (since you guys technically will not look at my lips like this), this goes on quite matte-ly.

Since this lipstick is a baby pink, it doesn't have as profound of an ability as a red lipstick to be able to create an illustion of whiter teeth. Of course it won't make your teeth look more yellow, but since it's more mellow, it "blends" in to the situation instead of being the focal point of your whole look.

So this is how it looks like on me overall. Just like Aishwarya, this is a mellow baby pink. But I think the difference comes in real life when I wear this vs. Aishwarya in the sense that this "appears" or "stands out" a little bit more. I think this is a warmer shade compared to Aishwarya, so when it's placed against my cool pinkish skintone, it stands out instead of blending in. But since this is still a baby pink, it's not an awkward kind of standing out. So I think if you choose between this and Aishwarya, the choice will depend on the undertones of your skin and if you want the lipstick to blend in or to stand out. I also think that this will really contrast in a good way on darker skintones, so that can also be a factor in your decision.

This is a veeery lively shade (just like the celeb it's associated with!) so I think this will be very good for those days when you really need your makeup to make you look like you're alive and you've had sleep. If you are into coral but are more into the pinks (like you just like a coral touch and do not want a wholly coral lippie), this one is for you.

According to Verna Marin, chief makeup artist of L'Oréal Paris Philippines, this will work best on light skintones. According to Marilene Perez, writer of this blog, you need this and all the other shades in the collection because every shade is too pretty to not buy.

This collection of L'Oréal has always been consistent in having great quality throughout the years, but if you need the different properties broken down, here goes:

Color Payoff- This collection ALWAYS has the best color payoff. Lipsticks are always as vivid on me as how vivid they are on the tube, and the color is more or less accurate relative to the tube. I've also enjoyed how vivid the colors are that most, if not all, of my lipsticks from this collection leave very good stains and tints.

Texture- These lipsticks have a silky texture, and presumably have a powdered formula in order to make them matte and silky. So like when you use these, they're not as slippery as using lip balm, but they do not resemble the formulae of liquid lipsticks or matte creams as they are much more emollient and spreadable. These later generation ones are less wispy than the old L'Oréal lipsticks, but the structure in the formula is perhaps what helps to make it buildable. You can pat this on and the color will be able to stick on and look like a tint. You can add more, apply it more liberally, or go back and forth several times in order to get a much more opaque look.

Comfort- These lipsticks are less wispy and less spreadable (spread as in how slippery it is when you smack your lips, not to be confused with blendability) than the old generation ones, so they feel less like lip balms now. However, compared to matte lipsticks of other brands, or the high vivacity color formulae of other brands, this is more spreadable and more comfortable. One key feature of this is that it does not weigh the lips down by having an opaque formula, so it doesn't feel heavy on the lips, which helps to make things more comfy.

Longevity- As a lipstick, you'd need to reapply this every few hours or so depending on how much oily food you are eating. If you want to keep up the opacity, you need to be committed to doing retouches ever so often. But if you want to just have a little color on the lips the whole day, you can slather this on and leave it be because the tint it leaves can stay on the whole day. In a typical jam packed day, I'd more or less reach out for vivid shades of this collection like 3-5 times, and for the less vivid shades, like every hour or so (there are near nude shades from this collection so those types really need to be reapplied or else my natural lip pinkness will override the lightness of the shade)

You can get this (or any other ones in the collection for that matter) for Php400. BUT! L'Oréal often has a lot of flash sales for this product line so be sure to stalk them on social media so you're the first to know when the deal's a steal! (Yes there was once that they sold this for Php200 only for a weekend, so when they say flash sale, they really mean flash sale!!)

Beauty News: Liese is FINALLY Here!!!

Two words can often describe today’s Filipina: stylish and career-oriented. While both are not mutually exclusive, they do have a tendency to work against each other at times. Oftentimes, they have to work hard in fixing their schedules in order to meet professional and personal goals and deadlines. A great example would be the hassle of having to go to a salon to get their hair colored when they could be using that time to finish work requirements or do something more fun with family and friends.
With hair so closely ingrained in one’s identity these days, everything that has to do with it—from its simple day-to-day care to coloring to styling—is now part of every Filipinas’ daily routine. This is how do-it-yourself hair coloring kits have become popular. The problem now is finding the right kind that will give the user salon-style results.
Color your hair with some bubbly
Most mainstream hair color treatments in today’s markets are crème type, which can be quite difficult to use, especially when you’re doing it yourself. This is where Liese Creamy Bubble Hair Color (BHC) comes in. Japan’s no.1 hair color brand is here and it is ready to change how Filipinas color their hair at home. Liese Creamy BHC sets itself apart with its unique formula that leaves long-lasting effects through a hassle-free process.
With its foam type formula, it offers Filipinas an easier alternative that still results in even and vibrant colored hair. In just three easy steps: (1) Mix the formula in the bottle with the foamer cap, (2) Massage the solution into the hair, and (3) Rinse the solution off after 30 minutes. Plus, Liese Creamy BHC offers six color variants, namely Rose Tea Brown; Raspberry Brown; chestnut Brown; Milk Tea Brown; Milky Beige; and Marshmallow Brown, that Filipinas can choose from.

Now, Filipinas can skip the long hours at salon and avoid its expensive costs by just grabbing a box of Liese Creamy BHC and allotting half an hour at home for some good old DIY hair coloring.
Bringing vibrancy to Filipinas’ homes
As Filipinas continue to find ways to express their individuality, Vibelle—Liese Creamy BHC’s official Filipino distributor—will do its part in helping them achieve this noble goal. By bringing over this revolutionary Japanese brand to the Philippines, the personal care products distributor is slowly changing how Filipinas view and practice beauty regimes.

Aside from this press release, feel free to check out my actual event vlog when they had an event last June 7 at Whitespace!

Teach The Importance of Sun Care with the Nivea Doll!

Say hello to the cutest way to convince someone, especially a child, to love using sunscreen!

Say hello to the Nivea Doll!

So this is not some random corporate freebie, this doll is made of a special material that reddens upon exposure to the sun. Like a real human, the only way to prevent reddening is to apply Nivea sunscreen on the doll before sun exposure. You kinda know that this is a doll because you can also get rid of the already reddened skin with sunscreen, but we all know that in real life, sunburns are much bigger of a public enemy and are less reversible.

Beauty News: Zen Zest at 15-- Celebrating the Beauty of Scent

Every business must answer a need. Otherwise, it would soon meet its demise and fade out in a sea of start-ups, trampled over by the next big thing. Fifteen years ago, Michelle Asence-Fontelera noticed how expensive imported bath and body products were and how no local brands provided the same good quality at affordable prices. Hence in 2001, Zen Zest was born. It was Michelle’s answer to the need of every Filipina to elevate her beauty, style, and home without breaking the bank.

As a beauty junkie and fragrance lover herself, Michelle believes in investing in your passions. For three months, she trained under a chemist and learned how to formulate her own products. Her initial colognes, hand sanitizers, lotions, perfumes, and soaps were all concocted and personally packaged in her home. With a P350,000 capital borrowed from her family, she opened Zen Zest’s first humble stall in SM Megamall and earned exactly P4,178 on her first day of business.

From that one small kiosk, the proudly Filipino-owned company grew into a successful enterprise. Banking on the observation that, “no matter how tough the economy gets, Filipinos still find the time and budget to hunt for and buy products that will make them look good and feel good,” Michelle was able to grow Zen Zest with over 100 outlets nationwide and abroad, and registering 100,000 bottles of Zen Zest fragrances sold monthly. Today, they have expanded their product line to include body scrubs, home fragrances, and baby colognes – their latest venture.

“The key is to keep the products affordable, but that doesn’t mean that they have to look like it,” Michelle reveals. Despite offering their products at a very low price point, Zen Zest maintains its promise of quality and beauty inside and out. Think under P200 gift packs that look, smell, and feel like the fancy toiletries imported from other countries. She shares, “Our holiday sets are especially competitive because we want to give our customers the option to give affordable presents that the recipient would truly appreciate.”

The core strength of Zen Zest will always be the formulation of its products. Michelle’s vision for the company has always been to compete on an international scale, using big imported brands as the benchmark for all of their merchandise. For body fragrances, the mild and citrusy scents like orange honeysuckle and white musk are customer favorites. Relaxing lavender scents mixed with vanilla or rose are their top sellers for room fragrances. Michelle explains, “We pride ourselves in keeping up to date with the trends with our extensive market research. If the market needs or wants it, we’ll have it.”

Zen Zest has already broken through the Asian market and their stalls have reached Japan, Bahrain, and Brunei where their cocktail collection of scents with clever names such as Cosmopolitan, Margherita, and White Russia are big hits. “The goal now is to penetrate the US market and go main stream in the West,” shares the entrepreneur. And it doesn’t seem like a farfetched target at all. As they celebrate their 15th year in business, Zen Zest promises that the brand has more exciting products and news up its sleeves. Not one to rest on her laurels, Michelle says, “Fifteen years may seem like a long time to be in business, but it’s just the beginning for Zen Zest.” Indeed, the future of Zen Zest is looking bright and smelling sweet.
