Life News: New OPPO F3 Ushers Next Wave of Stunning Groufies


Global electronics brand OPPO is driving the next wave of the groufie revolution with the launch of its latest dual selfie camera phone, the OPPO F3. For only P16,990, the newest member of the F3 Series family will go on sale starting May 13 in the Philippines as well as in India, Vietnam, Myanmar, and Indonesia.

Like its predecessor the F3 Plus, the OPPO F3 is designed with a 16-megapixel selfie-focused main camera paired with a sub-camera capable of capturing groufies through a larger field of view. This wide-angle camera also inherits the earlier model’s distortion-minimizing features to prevent image warping, while OPPO’s Beautify 4.0 photo editing software ensures a fresh look with every snap.

Farewell to the Selfie Stick
Fitting an entire gang inside a single shot will no longer be a struggle, and travel selfies won’t have to crop out the background and look like they were done in the backyard.

With twice the size of a selfie camera’s field of view, the secondary camera can easily include either a large group inside the picture frame or the background during a memorable trip—all without a selfie stick. This helps reduce the number of accessories needed for groufies and travel selfies.

My #AltheaTurns2 Mega Haul

Before Althea, buying K-Beauty items was such a risk. Remember those days when we'd have to order stuff online and it'd take soooo long to arrive only for us to be taxed all sorts of stuff at the post office? Or when we would be so nervous that the items might be fake? Remember all those fears? 

I am so happy that for most Southeast Asians, such thoughts already seem so far, far away, even if Althea has just been around for 2 years. It just goes to show that Althea really is a great place to shop at. I don't need to lie or whatever, because it really is just a great place to shop at. No customs duties, no overpricing, no fake items. Efficient delivery times. I have bought so many things from Althea simply because its operations management is so effective that I never have a headache when I shop with them. 

As such, I definitely had to join in their 2nd birthday party!!! I would say I got myself quite a haul as I have placed a lot of items on my Wishlist as of late hahaha.

Ballet Manila 22nd Season preview (July 25, 2017)

Get ready!!! GEEET REAAADY!!! Ballet Manila is killin' it with their 22nd season!!! Anyone who doesn't live in a cave has prolly seen or heard somewhere as to how epic Ballet Manila's Cinderella was last year. Ballet Manila's goddess, Lisa Macuja, is actually feeling the pressure right now that she put on too much of a show last season that there is nowhere else to go but up when it comes to this season's offerings. 

The 22nd Season is entitled Flights of Fantasy, and mainly, that's because they'll be staging their first ever Ibong Adarna ballet (and possibly the first ever in Philippine history), as well as including a classic in Swan Lake. There will of course be elements from Snow White and their Ballet and Ballads production. They'll have 4 ballets this season, and I'm so excited to see each one!!!

My Beauty For A Better Life Experience (July 20, 2017)

This experience brought me back to 2004! My mom was tired of expensive salon treatments when most of the time, she just needed trims or retouches to her hair. That's why she explored studying beauty culture. She studied in Ricky Reyes, and in TESDA's beauty course. So of course, that meant I was her model for plenty of her class sessions, and for her practice sessions at home. This also meant that as a Grade 3 student, I went to school often with updo's, French twists, and all sorts of crazy chignons hahaha. Ahh, those days. 

Today, I relived similar experiences as a proud model for L'Oréal's first batch of graduates for their Beauty For A Better Life program!!! L'Oréal adopted Brgy Sto. Niño and transformed it into a beauty school. It is in this venue that they succeeded in training a landmark batch of 75 students for 3 months about hair color, hair cutting, and other hair procedures. L'Oréal is known for its educational arm in L'Oréal Professionel schools, but this time, they made the effort to bring L'Oréal Professionnel school to the community, so that residents need not travel to the L'Oréal Professionnel school in Ortigas. They also chose this community format, so that after the students graduate, should they need backup people for their gigs, they have their neighbors to rely on. To add, it's also safer for them to travel together in pairs or trios to their future workplaces.

Beauty News: L'Oréal Philippines Empowers Underprivileged Women with Hairdressing Skills Training



Metro Manila, March 2017Seventy-five women from Barangay Sto. Nino in Marikina City will receive skills training in hairdressing from L’Oreal’s team of hair professionals this year as part of L’Oreal Philippines’ “Beauty for a Better Life” program developed to gift underprivileged communities with a free, international and high-quality training. The program will take trainees through three months of classes capped by an internship at a Metro Manila salon.
Led by the L’Oréal Foundation and implemented in different countries, “Beauty for a Better Life” is one of the Foundation’s key programs to help women in difficult situations regain their dignity, humanity, and femininity and help them reintegrate into society. Philippines becomes the 26th country in the worldwide line-up of L’Oréal subsidiaries who implement the global program.
 “Fulfilling our role as a great citizen, we at L’Oréal Philippines believe that beauty has the power to change lives. Beauty contributes to feeling better and living better, and gives women that extra boost of confidence they need to truly feel their best.  But in a deeper way, beauty can positively impact and improve lives through programs like “Beauty for a Better Life” which, beyond uplifting spirits, accompanies women on the path to employment,” explains Carmel Valencia, L’Oréal Philippines Corporate Communication Manager. 

Confidence can be like a “light at the end of the tunnel” for women who have encountered difficult situations in their lives. We believe that education provides the freedom to choose and build one’s future. Conscious that a large segment of the local population in the Philippines live below the poverty level, the L’Oréal Foundation and L’Oréal Philippines have made it our mission to redefine how ‘Beauty’ can impact the quality of life in these areas, not just through the brands that we carry but also through new avenues that offer a better tomorrow.” 
Training and Employability through Beauty: 

To develop the local version of the program, L’Oréal Philippines worked with the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) to nurture the ambition of offering new prospects for women in situations of social and economic instability by training them for careers in the beauty sector.  These jobs will promote social and interpersonal skills, as well as individual creativity and artistic ambition.  To ensure Government recognition of the skill set that trainees receive, graduates of ‘Beauty for a Better Life’ will be accredited by certified trainers after the training program.
The decision was made by L’Oréal Philippines and PBSP to bring the program to barangays most in need.  L’Oréal chose Barangay Sto. Nino in Marikina to implement the first batch of the program. Marikina City is included in the Office of the Vice President of the Philippines’ (OVP’s) Angat Buhay Program which works with the poorest areas to rehabilitate. Bgy. Sto Nino is home to about 41,000 inhabitants, 2,500 of whom are unemployed women of working age.  It is from this segment that 75 women will be chosen and segregated into three batches of 25 to be trained for three-months under the tutelage of L’Oréal Philippines hair professionals.  They will finish with an internship in salons that will expose them to career options. After the three-month training, PBSP and L’Oréal will work to place them for employment with micro entrepreneurs and salons in Marikina malls.
The program officially launched on April 19.

Life News: Pia Wurtzbach Takes On Huawei's Phonetography Challenge


“We are using this phone… THIS PHONE… for the cover shoot,” Pia shares in disbelief during the behind-the-scenes shot of her cover shoot for METRO magazine’s July 2017 issue. 

Expecting to see a full camera setup for a cover shoot, Pia arrives surprised at the sight of seeing well-known fashion photographer, Dookie Ducay, only bringing the Huawei P10 Plus in his hands. “I was so surprised that upon stepping on to the set when we were doing the shoot for this cover, I find out that we’re actually using the P10 as the camera. And I thought they were kidding. But they were serious… No cheating, guys, as in no cheating,” Pia relates.

“I have never done any cover shoot using only a mobile phone so having done this for the first time really excited me,” shared Ducay. “While I may have initial doubts in my head if a phone can deliver stunning photos, I had to correct myself and prove my doubts wrong when I’ve seen how powerful the Leica dual lens camera of the P10 was. For me, it has the best camera for portraiture.”

EB Advance Glow Out Highlighter Swatches and First Impression


Now this is a release that has gotten me soooo excited!!! I am sooo excited for when EB Advance's Glow Out Highlighters will hit stores!!! I feel that they're comparable to Anastasia with the high level of glow, the drama, and the intensity. This seems to be baked, which probably explains why it's pigmented and easy to blend. Another thing I'd like to note is that the two colors they have are distinct upon swatching. Sometimes, highlighters have different colors on the pan, but the moment they're swatched, they just fade off into a generic pearl shade. I am impressed that you can distinctly see which highlighter shade is which. 

I was told that this will retail for not more than Php200 each, so for those who are looking for affordable options, here you go!

New Ever Bilena Liquid Lipstick Swatches

Are you ready?!!! More liquid lipstick releases are coming from EB!!! They say that they will be releasing this 6 shade stunner in August, or later this year. I reaaally love that they're expanding the range of colors for Pinays to explore. Unlike other drugstore and mass brands, EB explores a lot of the trends and makes really sophisticated shades. And they of course know Pinay skintones very well, so there's that, too. 

This collection is a little bit more matte than their LTD collection, but more moist and easier to remove than their new Matte Liquid Lipsticks. I think the reason for doing this collection is for them to explore more high fashion shades that aren't commonly done by most brands. These colors are very runway-ish, and perhaps it's also another bid to show that for whatever makeup look you want to do, there's EB for that. And I think the other possible reason is that this collection explores shades with a grayish tone to them. The more I look at these, the more I feel like all of them are greyish in nature.

Ever Bilena LTD Liquid Lipstick Swatches and First Impressions


And we're back with more EB related posts!!! I often prefer to browse EB in drugstores where I won't be pestered by the sales force. I know it's their job to be present and I know how hard it is to be a sales associate, but I just prefer browsing quietly on my own most of the time. I can do that at drugstores. But drugstore shelves mean that there are often no testers. That's why during the EB Bold Beauty event the other week, I wasted no time swatching away. 

I am smitten by LTD!!! I understand why a lot of you love it so much. The shades are just soooo sophisticated and I love how there is no shortage of nude pinks and mauves. It's always so nice when there are big brands like EB that can bring high end trends to the mass consumer. The shades are so pretty no one will ever guess how little you spent on these babies! 

The texture is also so opulent and rich. It's a mildly sweet scented soft matte lip cream. This is perfect for people who cannot stand the dryness of the usual liquid lipstick.

Ever Bilena #EBBoldBeauty (June 21, 2017)

Following the extreme success of Ever Bilena's foray into EB Big Beauty Challenge comes this new step. If you will look back at their blogger competition, it truly was a testament of how the competition was such an effective way of marketing. All of a sudden, the very common, everyday items from EB suddenly became tools to equip the participants to create the craziest, most imaginative, and the grandest Avant Garde looks we've seen so far. We sort of always know in the back of our minds that Ever Bilena can be bought anywhere and everywhere and can be relied on for the staples we'd need for everyday looks. But lo and behold, their foray into blogger competitions proved that the brand can push the envelope.  

I'm not sure about since when did they start using the "Where Beauty Begins" slogan, but with that competition and this event, the slogan totally makes sense. For this event, they invited the press and media to play, experiment, and inadvertently, see for themselves how EB can be the brand to reach for when you want to up the ante.

Life News: Maxene Magalona and Leila Alcasid on the best kind of care


“Adjusting to my new life in the Philippines has been exciting and scary at the same time,” says Leila Alcasid, daughter of iconic singer/songwriter Ogie Alcasid. Slowly gaining a spotlight of her own, Leila says being in the public eye at this point in her life can get a little difficult. “I’m at that stage where everything is changing, and I don’t always know what to do. That’s why for me, it’s very important to have that one person who understands you completely. It’s comforting and reassuring,” she says.

The newly engaged actress Maxene Magalona agrees. “I’m entering a new chapter in my life. Now that I’m in the midst of planning my wedding, everything can get very overwhelming. And it’s at these moments, that a bride-to-be like me needs that one person that can reassure you, and just be there to understand what you’re going through,” she says.

Though at different stages of their lives, what Leila and Maxene have in common—or what most women have in common for that matter—is that innate need to be cared for by somone who understands their needs. Women think, behave, and feel differently, and therefore caring for them is also different.

Ever Bilena New Matte Liquid Lipsticks Swatches and First Impressions

Yesterday, Ever Bilena unveiled their new products to us bloggers and to the press and media, of course. As such, I am excited to be showing swatches and sneak peeks of their newest product offerings! 

This is their Matte Liquid Lipstick. And by matte, this really does not budge. The moment you put it on, you will not be able to wipe it off easily unless you use baby oil. The formula is thin, wispy, and doesn't crack on the lips. I find it uncomfortable when a liquid lipstick feels so heavy and cement like that it feels a bit hot on me already. That's why I feel that this will be a big hit amongst liquid lipstick lovers once this comes out in the market. I have no idea about pricing yet, but as EB has always upheld all these years, it will surely be within reach for most beauty aficionados out there.

I know, I know, it doesn't sound interesting. But it only sounds uninteresting at first. 

To say it in a language that consumers would like to hear, this is a revolutionary treatment from Gelish that gives acrylic like nails within 5 minutes or less! I know you've all seen the crazy acrylic tutorials on YouTube and I know y'all are dreaming of having nails that are fiber-glass like in sheen and sparkle. But of course, you were either scared away by the high prices of acrylic extensions or the loooong hours needed to do most acrylic jobs. Maybelline Fit Me Matte+Poreless Foundation Review and Swatches


Now this is the review you've all been waiting for!!! 2017 has been a favorable year for the foundation landscape in the Philippines with the arrival of L'Oréal Infallible Pro Matte and now Maybelline FitMe! Matte+Poreless foundation. I know, I know, all of our dreams are coming true one by one!!! 

This, to give a general landscape, is perhaps the most "balanced" foundation for the Philippines. I thought of many words to sum up this product, and I think that balanced is the best way to describe it. I'll of course elaborate further, but I think to give a "teaser", this is ideal for most people because while this may not get 100/100 from everyone, this will make it to at least 85/100 on most people's lists because it's the perfect balance of everything that people in the Philippines are looking for in a foundation. 

This is the exact same thing as what they have in the US, so if you've been slaving over buying this product online, your dreadful days are over!
