Beauty News: Check Out Gigi Hadid X Maybelline's Lip Releases!

The lip shades in Gigi Hadid’s latest collection with Maybelline has its own stories to tell

Manila, 2017 – A supermodel, fashion designer, and now a makeup mogul. When she’s not busy conquering the runways of designer fashion shows, she’s also working behind the scenes collaborating with different designers from clothing to shoes and even accessories. As if that’s not enough to add to her ongoing list of achievements, Gigi Hadid continues to #MakeItHappen as she now launches her debut makeup line in collaboration with the world’s no.1 makeup brand, Maybelline New York. As a makeup junkie herself, Gigi got the chance to work on this project along with her long-time friend, makeup tutor, and currently Maybelline’s Global Makeup artist, Erin Parsons.

Makeup made simple
Dubbed as a “coast to coast” collection, the entire makeup line is a mix of all the products that Gigi finds extremely essential based from her experiences of having to travel a lot for a living. The limited edition collection includes tinted primers, strobing creams, mascara, lip kits, and in neutral and basic shades perfect to transition from day-to-night looks. It also includes an entire ‘multi-tasking’ makeup palette that houses several shades of concealer, blush, highlighter, and contour together with a mini-version of mascara which she calls the Jetsetter Palette.

“The most exciting part about making this collection was creating something I wasn’t able to find before – a palette or kit that had all my favorite colors and everything I needed – all in one place," said Gigi.

The collaboration was in the works for almost a year and was carefully curated based on Gigi’s exciting jetsetter lifestyle and story. Some of the shades in the collection are deeply inspired by the places and people that hold a special place in her heart. To start, the collection includes two distinct looks—West Coast Glow and East Coast Glam—carefully designed by the 22-year old herself representing her hometown in Los Angeles and home base in New York City.

Some of the shades included in the collection are named after special people and locations in Gigi’s life. Several of the shades from Gigi’s eye shadow palette from the East Coast Glam collection are named after famous streets in New York—Bowery, Nolita, and Bond St. She also named one of the shades from her West Coast Glow collection “Summerland,” that reminds her of the summers she spent in her LA hometown.

As a self-professed nude lipstick enthusiast, the East Coast Glam lip kit is a set of lip liners and lipsticks in lush shades of nude, complementing an intense winged cat-eye that Gigi feels represents the boldness of the Big Apple as a city. The entire collection is the perfect combination of trendy, stylish, and grunge influences that translates to how the young mogul views the vibrant city of New York.

Gigi named the trio of lipsticks in this collection McCall, Taura, and Erin. McCall, pale, light and rose pink in shade was named after an dear friend of Gigi’s from way back, McCall Kroenig. Taura is a darker shade of nude that’s actually named after Gigi’s astrological sign, Taurus. Erin, a nude lippie leaning towards a more deep mauve shade, is named after none other than Gigi’s close friend, Erin Parsons.

The West Coast Glow lip kit comes in bold shades of red that complements every skin tone.

As a perfect contrast to the East Coast Collection, Gigi also came up with the West Coast Glow collection inspired by the warm California summer vibe. To highlight the laid-back and beachy feel of the look, Gigi includes three lippies in bold and vibrant bursts of red shades called Lani, Khair, and Austyn that complements all skin tones.

Austyn, with its cool, blue-based rouge undertone, and Lani, a bright orange shade, are named after close friends of the supermodel from LA. Khair, on the other hand, a great and basic cherry red lippie is named after her sister, Bella Hadid’s middle name. Gigi had to name one of the shades in this collection after her sister, as red is Bella’s personal color of choice when it comes to accentuating her smackers.

The Gigi Hadid lipsticks retail for Php 349 while the lip liners go for Php 249 a piece. Get the whole lip kit (lipstick and lip liner) for only Php 499! It’s the first time for Maybelline to launch lip kits in its entire product roster and this will be available only until supplies last.

Life News: Kathryn Bernardo Gets M-powered with the Newest Canon EOS M100

“Ever since I was young, I already loved taking photos. Being around professional photographers all the time like Mark Nicdao and Sara Black really inspires me to take photos the way they do,” she shares.

Life News: Fifth Rack White Plains Now Open!!!

In business, the right fit can make a whole world of a difference, and there is nothing that quite fits than to work on a passion that you allow to grow. Fashion lover Miel Villamor has found just that as she founded Fifth Rack Lifestyle and Concept Store.

Fifth Rack is a fashion and lifestyle outlet that offers customers the best finds from up-and-coming fashion brands, giving them to unique, one-of-a-kind pieces that can’t be found in malls or other retail stores. Located at 141 Katipunan Ave, White Plains, Quezon City, the store has been the go-to location for fashionistas in the South for fashion items from rising local brands and designers.

“I’d like Fifth Rack to be a one-stop shop for all sorts of unique apparel for men and women, but also items for kids, home items, and beauty products,” says Villamor. “We want to establish the image that we have something for everyone, from young professionals, to teens, to even moms and titas.”

Space for Local Brands

Its unique concept lies in putting together and different fashion brands all under one roof. This means that customers can get a taste of different designers and brands without having to hop from shop to shop.

“We are actually the first curated fashion and lifestyle concept store with mostly high-quality local brands and designers in one roof,” Villamor adds.

Not only does this arrangement benefit shoppers looking for something unique, but also the brands themselves by providing them space to showcase their products.

“One of the main goals of the store is to help start-up brands grow whether it is though sales, awareness or opportunity,” she says. “We aim to help these brands gain more awareness by having them showcase their products at the store so they can reach a bigger market.
Villamor also describes the store as a sort of training ground for start-up brands and designers to get their first taste of having a shop. A whole slot at Fifth Rack costs P8,000.00 a month. Meanwhile, a half slot costs P4,500.00 per month.

“This is a good way for brands and designers to get their brand out there and get to know their market’s taste without the hassle of trying to set up their own shop. For the amount of money they’ll be paying, they can have their own signage and spot at the store,” she states.

Passion for Fashion

This is not, however, Villamor’s first try in the world of retail, before Fifth Rack BF and Whiteplains, she manages Row 101 Pop-Up Store, which is a curated bazaar of sorts of different fashion brands and designers that she personally selected. After realizing that this was a great way to get up-and-coming brands out there in the market, she decided to put up something more permanent which is Fifth Rack.

“There was a demand for doing a more permanent store not only from shoppers who wanted this wide selection of unique items but from the brands themselves because now, they were able to break into the consciousness of the shoppers. As much as possible, we really want to promote these brands at a minimal cost,” states Villamor.

However, she admits to not knowing that she’d eventually go into business and was simply propelled by her love of fashion.
“I never planned to be in business; it just sort of happened. I always wanted to do something that was fashion related. I loved fashion, dressing up and putting things together. So, working with different brands that have their own unique aesthetic is really interesting,” admits Villamor.

Ballet Manila Presents Snow White (November 25, 2017)

"Sooomedaaaay my prince will coooome!!!"

That is what basically will go through your head when you watch Ballet Manila's Snow White! If you happen to not live in a cave and have heard about how epic Ballet Manila's Cinderella was, then this is the next to the installment of epicness. But to be fair, epic in terms of production value, given the opulent set design and very detailed costumes. Because on the other hand, Swan Lake was epic in terms of technicality and dance discipline. Ballet Manila's Cinderella and Snow White charm the audiences and bring them to a fantasy world, while their rendition of Swan Lake really shows what ballerinas spend 12 hours a day in the ballet studio for. 

Before everything, there are still 2 shows coming this weekend! 6PM on December 2, and 3PM on December 3! Be sure to get your tickets from TicketWorld while you still can! 

Unfortunately, the traffic was so bad last Saturday that I only made it in time for Act 2. Act 2 mainly features the apple scene. I find it so amazing that Katherine Barkman is the lead again, because honestly, I still feel so tired for her with all the jumps and spins she did for 3 hours during Swan Lake hahaha.

Life News: Ballet Manila's Snow White To Premiere on November 25

Funny how the idea of creating her own version of “Snow White” came to Ballet Manila’s CEO and Artistic Director Lisa Macuja-Elizalde right after her full choreographic debut last year. Due to the success of “Cinderella,” what was once regarded simply as “The Next One” has now become a second full-fledged masterpiece from the Prima Ballerina herself—and it’s finally making its world premiere in the 22nd performance season, “Flights of Fantasy.”

When asked about her fascination with fairy tales as ballet, she says, “My calling has always been to become a classical ballerina—nothing else. First, I believe in sticking to what you know, and I know my classical ballets very well. I have a wealth of classical ballet steps in my dancer’s vocabulary. If you think about it, the classical ballets are all fairy tales, or at least stories, that have come to life in dance form.”

Ballet Manila’s take on the fairy tale classic will be more Brothers Grimm than Disney when it comes to the production’s look and feel. This was a conscious decision made by Lisa herself, as she wanted the storytelling to be the main star of the show. They are “storytellers on toes,” after all.

Last year’s full choreography work in Cinderella was just the warm up. Lisa shares, “I now understand when choreographers say that they get inspiration from the dancers they work with. That was the case with Cinderella, and now, with Snow White.”

Lisa knew that she wanted more, now that her insecurities as a choreographer have gone away. With the help of Ballet Master Osias “Shaz” Barroso and even the dancers’ little quips and comments, and of course, the company’s mastery of the Vaganova technique, Snow White promises to be a magical and fantastic show—all in all, a truly Ballet Manila production.

From the costumes to the dancers themselves, there’s a sense of synergy that will be most evident when the show finally makes its world premiere. Lisa provides a teaser about the set designs and costumes:

“Set designer Mio Infante has talked about making mushrooms the main feature in the forest. There will be so many dynamic elements on stage like a moving mirror, as well as animal figures. Popular nursery rhymes will also be used in the music being arranged by Von De Guzman. Longtime Ballet Manila costume designer Michael Miguel will once again make amazing costumes. Watch out for Snow White’s costume changes!”

With Snow White, Lisa guarantees that each member of the audience will get their fill of pure magic, romance, and fantasy. The audience can only expect the highest quality of dancing as well from the country’s youngest yet strongest ballet company.

Lisa Macuja-Elizalde’s Snow White will make its world premiere on November 25, 2017 at 6:00PM at the Aliw Theater. There will be three other shows: November 26, (3:00PM), December 2 (6:00PM), and December 3 (3:00PM).
