Happy 7th Anniversary, Orogold Philippines! (August 1, 2018)

 Who knew?

Time went by so quickly for all of us that no one realized that Orogold Philippines is already at its 7th year! They have already done so much in the past 7 years in revolutionizing what luxury skincare truly means, and there is still plenty more good stuff to come.

To thank all their stakeholders, from suppliers and partners, to loyal customers, and to members of the press and media they've worked with, they hosted this thanksgiving event yesterday at their Resorts World flagship store.

Cream Silk Triple Keratin Rescue Ultimate Conditioners

Pia's ultimate beauty, now ultimately ours!

Cream Silk recently released their Triple Keratin Rescue, as their new foray into the daily treatment conditioner market. I do not know if they are phasing out their original daily treatment conditioner range, but as far as these new babies are concerned, they are the future.

Before I explain further, I'd like to take the chance to thank Sample Room for sending this kit over! To add, y'all can still try the pink one for free at Sample Room for 55 points

I'm An Althea Angel!!!

Wah! Wahhh! Waaaaaaahhh!!!

It is with much excitement that I would like to share to y'all that I'm an Althea Angel!!! Althea Angel today, Victoria's Secret Angel tomorrow! No, just kidding hahaha.

I am so excited to be an Althea Angel as it feels so full circle ish to me. I remember being one of the first Philippine bloggers approached for their Philippine launch. From the first transaction, I was already so impressed that my items came to my house incredibly fast and that I didn't need to go to the post office. To add, the pristine pink box stood out among all the tattered, taped, and torn brown boxes most packages from abroad came in at the time. It feels natural to be promoting them further as an Angel, as I myself have been a regular shopper at Althea since its launch. The healthy 'Althea Korea' tag here on blog will serve as the testament to how much I love them!

Thoughts On Plana Forma

Well well!!! I did Plana Forma for 2 months, from December 2017 to February 2018. In the two months, I was able to observe how the system works in general and why it didn't work for me in general. Don't get me wrong, it's a great exercise system, but it just wasn't my cup of tea. All of us, we learn differently, and that also carries over a lot to the exercise formats we thrive in, and ones we don't thrive in.

So I wanted to create a post that will chronicle in what ways did it work and not work for me.

Inglot X Jennifer Lopez Event and Collection Swatches (July 24, 2018)

Make way for Jenny from the Block!

SM Mega Fashion Hall quickly turned into a glam satellite birthday bash area, as July 24 was Jennifer Lopez's birthday, and the launch site for Jennifer Lopez's Inglot collection in the Philippines.

This was an event that was so amusing because, you see, blogger age ranges vary so much. On average, the range  of attendees is 17-45 years old for most events. But in this event, we (as in everybody) found ourselves dancing and singing along to an afternoon of Jennifer Lopez music. There were some J.Lo songs that came out when I was still in nursery, and kindergarten! Craaaaaay!!!

J.Lo really has this power to appeal to that wide of an age range with her universal charm, wit, and sensual beauty. As a brand that caters to people of all ages, skin tones (and even faiths!), it highly makes sense for Inglot to collaborate with her. Overall, this is a collection which I am so happy over, as everything is so apt for sun kissed Filipino skin tones. For those who are also looking for a good glow, this is also an exciting collection.

Cookie Heaven With Scout's Honor Cookies

Fun fact: I wanted to join scouting as a kid, but my mom didn't allow me to do so for fear that my skin would be very dark as I'd be under the sun often. Yes, I know, it's hilarious. But at the time she was serious about it hahhaha

When I was young, oh how I envied the girl scouts, especially when they came to school in their girl scout uniform! And with all the cool knot tricks and life hacks they knew!

Fast forward to today, while I may not be a girl scout, nothing's gonna stop me from enjoying Scout's Honor! The whole scouting brand concept appeals to me so much, because aside from my girl scout dreams, we named our first cat Cookie as my brother found her at Scout Ybardolaza (and thought that girl scouts sold cookies). Cookie is no longer with us and I miss her terribly. But everytime I remember cookies and girl scouts, happy memories with Cookie as a kitten come back...

THROWBACK: The Good Stuff At Kushikatsu Daruma

Kushikatsu Daruma

Kushikatsu Daruma is one of those places that speaks to me on a whole different level, being an overworked millennial myself. In Japan, Kushikatsu Daruma is the go-to tavern for overworked office peeps to get good and filling grub, and to relax with a few drinks after a deadly workday. It's the place where you recharge and get yourself together for get another grueling day to follow.

In the Philippines, I feel that we're already at that level, and that it just hasn't been formally studied or measured yet. Almost all my friends work 10-12 hour workdays, often even giving up weekends and holidays just to get things done. We're at Japan and Korea's levels of overwork already, and we ought to have our own taverns to eat away our heartaches and exhaustion. That tavern for me will have to be Kushikatsu Daruma, even if it's so far away from my house!!!

Fambam Time at Hanamaruken

Feast at Hanamaruken

Now that it's so rainy, PAG-ASA should not only declare the start of the rainy season, but also the start of ramen season. I mean ramen is something that we crave for all year round, but going for ramen on a stormy day really just hits the spot. No one likes excessively stormy weather, but at least we can try to feel better about it with ramen.

Thank you so much to Hanamaruken for this fambam treat!

THROWBACK: E! Bloggers Ball 2017 (September 16, 2017)

E! Bloggers Ball

Posting this just because I wanna remember the good times at last year's E! Bloggers Ball! There have only been 2 balls so far, but the fun part is that everyone is able to get together, even just once a year. Usually, media events are small to medium scale, so the guest list usually just is at 50 on average, with a guest list of 100 already considered large. This is why we won't see everyone we know in one event. There are friends we see in some events, but not in others. The difference with E! Bloggers Ball is that they are magically able to gather everyone in one place.

THROWBACK: AVON's Christmas Gifts

AVON Christmas Gifts

See! Seee! I told you that the Santa sack that AVON sent needs a post of its own!

Thank you so much again, AVON, for graciously sending over that the whole family can enjoy. I know it's sooo late to be blogging about this, but better late than never right?

THROWBACK: 2017 Blogger Christmas Gifts

2017 Blogger Christmas Gifts

It's back! Mari's backlog crisis of 2018! So far, so good with 2018 events. I don't have any pending event posts anymore, and I finished a looooot of flatlays, but I still have 10000 reviews and feature posts to go. This one included!

Although half a year late, better late than never right? So I wanted to take some time to give thanks to the brands who had sent Christmas gifts over.

J.Cat Beauty #TurnUpTheVolume (July 19, 2018)

Happy 1 year, J.Cat Philippines!!! J.Cat really just is good at marketing, because in less than a year since its entry in the Philippines, it has already established a very strong social media presence and has received a cult following for a lot of its products (I'm looking at you, highlighter and eyebrow gel!!). I've seen this brand go from being the new kid on the block to making it to the kikay kits of so many girls in such a short time.

This gathering was all about celebrating the many ways Filipinas can add boldness to their looks every single day, in every single way, with lots of the very electrifying color makeup selections from J.Cat. And somehow this was also a celebration of all the milestones they've made in such a short period of time.

#AtomicBang Fashion Show (June 24, 2018)

Erik Santos, Enchong Dee, Jake Cuenca, Yeng Constantino, Vice Ganda, KZ Tandingan, and Tim Tap at #AtomicBang Show by Bang Pineda

Ah, this is the fashion show for every Kpop addict! Weeell, no KPop song was used, but the whole flavor and feel of Bang Pineda's #AtomicBang menswear fashion show definitely will appeal to Kpop lovers. With lots of color blocking, black and leather pieces, and tonsssss of awesome denim jackets and coats, the models looked like they walked straight out of a Kpop music show!

If money were no object, I would've gotten all the denim coats coz they're all so spunky! Those who know me well, know that my personal style leans on grungy, edgy, and spunky. Or whatever the Kpop trend is. It just isn't super apparent on the blog because there are times where event organizers request us to arrive in a certain dress code...

THROWBACK: My Line Friends Althea Box

This was a flatlay I did soooooo long ago!!! And this was a post scheduled to come out almost 2 years ago, but well, life happened and I got super busy over lots of things. I finished university, went back to Japanese language school, took on a job, subsequently left said job, and 10000 other things.

This post is really just for me to have as a remembrance or like some sort of chronicle in this blog about this time I got the Althea Line Friends box. I love Line Friends so much that when Missha did one, I was scrambling to find the reputable sellers that were stocking the collection. I was so happy that Althea did because I was confident that my order would be safe, compared to if I had ordered from another website and needed to go to the post office. This has long been sold out at Althea, more so that even Missha Korea has already ended this collaboration quite some time ago...

Jergens 100 Years Of Glowing Skin (July 5, 2018)

Kim De Guzman for Jergens

Can you believe it? Jergens lotions have been in existence for 100 years!!! I remember that when I was a little girl, Jergens had already been there for a really long time. All the grown ups were using Jergens, and the grown ups' mommies were also using Jergens. Well basically that's how it played out in my mind hahaha.

Time flies so fast and Jergens moisturizers have already been in existence for a hundred years, meaning women around the world have had glowing skin for already 100 years! Interestingly, Jergens started out as Andrew Jergens soap factory in 1882, later on venturing into lotions, cleansers, and other toiletries. The brand entered the Philippine market in 1967 when it made Vibelle Manufacturing Corporation its Philippine manufacturer and distributor. So in the Philippine perspective, much is to be celebrated as well, as Jergens has been in the Philippines for 51 years already!

My 2nd Lazada Beauty TV Facebook Live! (June 28, 2018)

Lazada Live videos are always so fun to do!!! After doing this second one, I'm now heavily considering a career in home TV shopping hahaha... This time, I did a live with Genzel.

I did take some BTS footage of what goes on during a Lazada Live, but the vlog has yet to be edited! So I wanna share first the live video we did to feature Maybelline Super Stay Matte Ink Unnudes! Superstay Matte Ink is a reaaally good product line of Maybelline that it can easily be put to a live test, all because there are no camera tricks needed to make the good points of the product shine through. For one, it's so long lasting that even when Genzel and I had coffee, a sandwich, a doughnut, and noodles, the product still stayed put! Even when we were talking like crazy, it also stayed put. When I got home, I didn't take it off. I then filmed two short dance videos, attended mass, had dinner, attended our priests' farewell party, and even after that my lipstick was still there! It's crazy.

And I also just wanna share some photos we took with L'Oréal managers and Rap (the broadcast technician at Lazada) after the live. It's always so fun because we're always just laughing. Even behind the scenes, there's a lot of joking going on. And there are also a lot of whispers on what Maybelline will do next. The future is exciting for Maybelline!!!

Till the next live!!!

My Papa Kim's Visit (June 22, 2018)

I haven't blogged about a food adventure in a looooong time!!! Weeeeell, I got busy and stressed from a lot of things I needed to do. The stress triggered my hereditary cholesterol to manifest very early, and then I had to curb all my food indulgences and watch over my diet.

But for this blog post, even in a rare occasion, I'll be talking about mom and I's short visit to Papa Kim's bakery! Well, y'all know mom is shy, so she has no photo here. But we went together to explore the place.

L'Oréal For Women In Science (June 5, 2018)

Attending this event definitely had me see my past self. I know I've talked about it here and there that I used to be a chemistry major in college, before shifting to management. In my time at the chemistry department, I did see the struggles of women in the industry. As far as UP Chem is concerned, there was definitely no sexism, and the community was fair. Some science departments actually even had more female scientists in them. But there were plenty of sacrifices made by the female scientists. Some ended up not marrying altogether to pursue their careers. We had this professor who brought her baby to school. And for a lot of those who had children, they did feel some guilt that their intensive careers ate away at their family time throughout the years.

With all these sacrifices and hardships of women in science, they ought to be recognized, appreciated, and supported in their endeavors. This is exactly what L'Oréal's For Women In Science initiative is all about. This is their partnership with UNESCO since 1988, and the program has helped more than 2,700 women across 115 countries and awarded grants to 97 Laureates.

#ViceXBang Launch (June 4, 2018)

Vice Ganda and Bang Pineda at #ViceXBang Launch

What happens when Vice and fashion designer BFF Bang Pineda do a collection? Well, it's as fantastic as we think it will be. One big factor into all of this is that Bang is Vice's longtime stylist, so he's someone who really has a very similar sense of aesthetic as Vice. Out of all the fabulous friends Vice has, it takes someone like Bang, who has the same grungy, spunky style as Vice, to pull off a cohesive collaboration.

Kris Aquino X Ever Bilena (May 31, 2018)

Kris Aquino X Ever Bilena Event
I'm sure anyone of you who isn't living in a cave by now knows how much people are raving over Kris Aquino's collaboration collection with Ever Bilena. But for those who are wondering about how it's like to attend a product launch of products by the Queen of Media herself, then maybe this is the right post.

If I remember correctly, there was probably about more than an hour, or even two hours of talk, from madam (Yes, it's what I call Kris coz my friends work for her and they all call her madam and I absorbed it as well). But well, it didn't even feel like it. Normally, we bloggers would be bored to death after 20-30 minutes of a program, but somehow, a lot of us didn't even notice that an hour had already passed by quickly. Such is the talent of madam.

#CarelineKissParty (May 30, 2018)

Andrea Brillantes for Careline Kiss Sticks

Say hello to Careline Kiss Sticks! And more importantly, say hi to Andrea Brillantes' first official TV commercial! I haven't seen this ad on TV yet, but I hope I get to see it sometime soon as the TVC is just so cool!

Club Clio X Edward Avila X Rouge Heel Velvet X Nudism Cushion (May 26, 2018)

Club Clio Rouge Heel Velvet Lipsticks

So many exciting things to look forward to at Club Clio as of late! For one, as this flatlay shows, their Rouge Heel Velvet lipsticks are now here! The lipsticks come in 10 beautifully intense shades, inspired by the sultriness of sexy stiletto shoes. These lipsticks also aim to have a creamy and luxurious finish. I am still drowning in my backlogs, and am dying to review these because they are sooooo pretty. But baby steps, baby steps!!! We'll get there too somehow.

Even the vlogs!!! I will definitely be uploading the footage from this event, as well as the reviews!

Watsons #HairGoals (May 17, 2018)

Watsons #HairGoals Event
My magazine cover! My own magazine. Of course, this is only 1 copy, and only for me. I doubt anyone will buy a a magazine with me on the cover hahaha. Or maybe if I hoard all the hair products at Watsons, maybe I can be one step closer?

The organizers did this event because they knew that every single one of us just has that one particular friend that has great hair--the #HairGoals friend who can star in a shampoo commercial anytime. Yes, that friend. Why only admire that friend when we can become the #HairGoals person in our own circles? That's how this event came to be.

YouTube Fanfest 2018 (May 11, 2018)

YouTube Fanfest 2018

T'was my first! I've been floating around the vlog industry for a while now, but this year's YTFF was the first one I ever attended, hence the post! I highly regret that I still do not have the vlogs covering this ready! I'm slowly trying to pace things as I finish off my backlogs. Thank you so much Mae for sharing your spare ticket with me!

Mae was unfortunately not able to go to YTFF, so this year I technically went alone, but next year hopefully we could all go.

SM Beauty Playground Launch (May 10, 2018)

SM Beauty Playground Launch

A selfie taken at SM Beauty Playground!

Why is this significant? Well, it's not because it's me, but rather, how many of us still make it to stores these days? There's too much going on in our lives that we rely on online shopping so heavily. But the difference with online shopping is of course the lack of playtime and reality. It's still a very different feeling to be able to swatch and examine a product in real life, ya know? To be able to swatch things, observe textures, and to compare items realtime... And it's also different to be able to walk around shelves. There are still a lot of brands who do not have strong e-commerce and e-marketing infrastructures, and while they should be investing in those, it's still a loss if we miss out on great products that can only be seen offline.

That's what's special with SM Beauty Playground. Yeahp, it's still your favorite SM Beauty section, but now, it wants to remind everyone more than ever that it is there for us when we want to learn more about beauty, to experiment with our looks, and to have an overall satisfying customer experience. SM Beauty sections have always been popular for having a sales force that is highly knowledgeable on beauty, and for being patient and helpful to even to the most clueless customer. And they want to remind everyone that that's what they're all about.

Cream Silk Head On Hair Strong (April 26, 2018)

Cream Silk Hair Fall Defense Head On Hair Strong Class

A first in Doll Up Mari history! Well, normal selfies are too boring. So let's do an upside down photo today, shall we? This was my first time to try an aerial silk class in my whole life, and while it was dizzying, it was an interesting experience. But why aerial silk, right? I'm sure that's what you're all thinking.

If you guys saw this cool commercial of Cream Silk online, it will become clear why we were made to try aerial silk! The aerialist's hair looks so graceful while she's in motion! And thanks to Cream Silk, there's bound to be little to no hair fall that will need to be swept after the aerial silk session. I'm sure y'all get conscious as well about the sheer amount of hair fall we all have on a daily basis. I often need to sweep around my computer chair because of all the fallen hairs. The struggle is real.

AVON Intimates Step Into Your Comfort Zone (April 24, 2018)

AVON Fashions Intimate Apparel Ambassadresses
Contrary to most promotional materials telling you to step out of your comfort zone, AVON is sending out the exact opposite message. This time, step into your comfort zone. AVON, being the company for women since the beginning, understands the extreme pressures women face in conforming to norms and standards. It's a holistic pressure, from lifestyle, to career, to appearance, and the list goes on. There is always this invisible mold of perfection that every woman must fit into, even if this mold is too unrealistic.

But why dwell on the ways we don't conform, when we can dwell on the unique things that make us special? This is why AVON called on five extremely amazing women, who lead in their respective fields, and come with stories of resilience against conforming to the norms. And of course, as far as intimate wear is concerned, AVON has got your covered (no pun intended) with an extremely wide range of styles and sizes, to suit every woman's needs.

Ever Bilena Big Beauty Challenge 2 Finals (April 6, 2018)

Ever Bilena Big Beauty Challenge Winners Trisha Mortero (Cycle 2) and Min Ortiz (Cycle 1)

Coz I'm so late at blogging this, I'm sure y'all who don't live in a cave already know that the crown has been passed to Ever Bilena's new Big Beauty Challenge winner! Congratulations Trisha Mortero! This year was extremely competitive, with the best of the best creating out of this world looks for each round. The trend of high caliber avant garde entries, I think, can be attributed to last year's winner, Min Ortiz. His crazy finals entry blew everyone away, and the video, as far as I know, went viral on a lot of pages. People were so shocked at his skills, and the fact that he was able to pull off such an intricate look with homegrown favorite Ever Bilena. As such, the bar was set extremely high this year, with a lot of preliminary entries already being finals level.

Ever Bilena executives had a very very hard time to choose the winner, as everyone was just way too good. But of course, as with any other contest, someone has to emerge as the winner. And that is Trisha. Check out her winning entry here!!!

Anne Curtis' BLK Cosmetics K-Beauty Launch (April 5, 2018)

Anne Curtis' BLK K-Beauty Collection Launch

Sweet dreams are made of these! Only Anne Curtis does an event at the Dessert Museum, because only she can pull it off (in all aspects). Thus far, this has to be one of the most memorable and interesting events I have ever attended in the past five years. It's not always that a brand can find a venue that personifies the brand story or product launch story, so BLK and Dessert Museum are lucky to have each other!

I am so sorry that this was one of the posts stuck in the pipelines!!! I was highly impressed by the products of this launch and was disappointed at myself for taking this long to get a blog post up. I only got out of my job not too long ago, so it'll take me some time to get rid of all the backlogs I have. Baby steps, baby steps!!!

My L'Oréal XTenso Oleoshape Experience (June 29, 2018)

L'Oréal XTenso Oleoshape Experience
I obviously am not someone who could ever pass to enter any royal family anywhere in the world, but at least as far as hair is concerned, it's possible to achieve royalty worthy hair now!!! I recently tried L'Oréal's XTenso Oleoshape, and in essence, got Kate Middleton hair.

This blog post will of course be all about how it's done, but XTenso Oleoshape, in the simplest terms, permanently makes your hair shiny, shaped, and voluminous, just like royalty. No more poofy hair days, buhaghag days, "OMG di ko napatuyo buhok ko nang maayos days." and the like. Since getting it done, my hair looks like it's ironed and blow dried 24/7, even when I just towel dry and brush my hair.

For those who would like to see the treatment in action, check out my vlog!

Life News: Canon EOS M100 M-powers Women through Photography

Manila, Philippines– With the increasing number of Filipinos owning basic smartphones and handheld cameras, anybody today can literally capture their daily moments and curate it into a piece of work or personal content. A world-renowned photographer once said, “Everyone’s camera can tell a story” – but how exactly can you turn these captured moments into powerful and meaningful stories that matter to people? Canon Marketing Philippines, Inc. (CMPI) teams up with four inspiring Filipinas to encourage more women to tell empowering stories in ways words cannot.

Launched in 2017, the Canon EOS M100 is Canon’s most lightweight mirrorless camera body yet, weighing in at only 302 grams*, making it the best option to enable visual storytelling – may it be for personal use, or for new talents to get their work noticed. Not to be underestimated, this handy camera boasts of professional quality photos thanks to its 24.2 megapixel sensor, Dual Pixel CMOS AF, up to ISO 25,600, 180-degree tilting LCD screen, and Full HD video shooting capability that is at par with the shooting power of DSLR cameras.

Equipped with built-in Wi-Fi, NFC, and Bluetooth, the EOS M100 allows users to instantly share perfectly captured moments—making it the right companion for some of today’s women who excel in their respective fields: Kathryn Bernardo, Sara Black, MJ Marfori, and Sofia Andres.

M-powering Women through Style
For actress Sofia Andres, a woman’s style is an extremely powerful tool when it comes to making her feel confident. “Everyone has their own unique style, and knowing your personal style is something every woman should give importance to. Style has the ability to transform women. It has the power to liberate,” said the 19-year old actress and model.

Characterized by its stylish and sleek design, the Canon EOS M100, is the perfect companion for the woman of style. Its Self-Portrait mode helps make sure users capture the best version of themselves through adjustments ranging from smooth skin tones to background blurring and more. It even comes in four different colors - black, white, greige, and pink to match the user’s style. Whether it’s a quick selfie or a self-timed portrait, the EOS M100 is sure to capture the perfect shot to help women feel confident and beautiful.

“Anybody can be a storyteller,” shared Sara Black, top professional photographer known for her evocative beauty editorial work. “But what makes a story stand out is having the right camera to perfectly fill that gap between people and the moments that tell stories,” she added.

Equipped with Dual Pixel CMOS AF, the Canon EOS M100 provides precise focusing to deliver that depth for strong storytelling. The M100 even comes with face detection that offers an incredibly fast and smooth autofocus that stays locked onto the subject, even when it is in motion, to capture fleeting moments. Its built-in Creative Assist function offers a user-friendly interface that helps beginners and professionals alike to easily change camera settings and instantly see the results. “You don’t need to learn three years of photography to be able to perfectly capture moments. Everyone has the power to inspire. It’s not also something that’s exclusive to people with a huge number of social media following it’s for anybody who wants to tell a story,” said Black.

M-powering Women through Functionality
For TV host MJ Marfori, telling stories is at the core of everything that she does to help empower Filipinos, especially women. As a familiar face in news reporting to many, it has become her work and her passion to travel in different places to search and share meaningful stories across the nation. With the compact and lightweight design of the Canon EOS M100, it is easy to hold and carry anywhere for convenience without compromising quality. “My goal is to be able to reach and inspire people of different backgrounds through the stories I share,” she said.

With the EOS M100’s handiness, built-in Wi-Fi, NFC, and Bluetooth for seamless connectivity, she is able to instantly share empowering stories captured in professional quality photos.
Teen Queen Kathryn Bernardo shows off the Canon EOS M100 in Greige.

Enhancing the experience of taking photos by providing users with access to different creative choices, the EOS M100 is compatible not only with Canon EF-M lenses, which are tailor-made for EOS M series digital cameras, but also the extensive line of Canon EF and EF-S lenses available for other EOS cameras. “Having the option to choose and decide on what you want is for me – the ultimate freedom to express my creativity as a woman and tell my story in a single frame,” said Philippine’s Teen Queen and Canon Philippines ambassador Kathryn Bernardo.

With its style, substance, and functionality, the Canon EOS M100 promises uncomplicated technology, handiness, connectivity, and uncompromising quality—making it the perfect companion for empowered women who want to share meaningful stories, one photograph at a time.

I MET PATRICKSTARRR OMG + Lazada Beauty TV Experience (March 2, 2018)

March 2, 2018 was such a monumental day in my life, and I have so much regret that it is only now that I have the opportunity to talk about what happened in great detail!!!

I MET PATRICKSTARR. OMG, OMG, OMG. I MET HIM.

Well, in an extreme twist of fate that can only be orchestrated by God, I met Patrickstarrr!!! Feb 24 was his meet and greet for MAC customers, and while I had no hesitations on hoarding everything to be able to see him at his fanmeet, I was unfortunately very ill. I was coughing up a storm, and I had a bad cold, too, hence I was sneezing and wheezing a lot as well. I didn't go to the event because I knew I'd only be a disturbance to public order my sneezing and coughing. I thought I missed the chance and hoped that he'd come again soon.

Well, lo and behold, Quezon City dweller Mari Perez was commissioned by Maybelline to do a Facebook live for Lazada at their BGC office, at 12NN sharp, on March 3, as the pilot episode of Lazada Beauty TV. Mari Perez walks into the Net Park Lima complex at 11:30AM, still quite sleepy due to severe insomnia, and sees a very very familiar face at Manam. OMG. IT. IS. PATRICKSTARR. Mari takes a 1 in a million chance and walks inside the resto to tell Patrick how much she loves him. Apparently, Patrick and the Starr fam are having their last meal at Manam before flying back to the US.

And kids, that's how I met PatrickStarr. OMG. It was such an extreme twist of fate because all the timings and venues just aligned!!!! I normally never go far away from QC, and even if I have an event at BGC, there are hundreds of possible venues that could've not been Net Park. Patrick could have been dining elsewhere, and could have not yet been there while I was walking at the lobby. Or he could've already left Manam by the time I finished my shoot. The more I think about it months from that day, the more thankful and grateful I feel because it's really an extremely rare circumstance that only God can do.

It was so humbling to meet the Starr fam, as they are so down to earth. You can see in Patrick and Mama Starr, Papa Starr, and Peter, how grateful they are for what they have. Mama Starr and Papa Starr radiate this aura of gladness with how the world has come to love their son so fervently. It's hard to put into words, but this is a really humble family that appreciates all that they have now and knows the hardships they went through to get to where they are now.

Canon B.L.I.S.S. with PIXMA Printers (February 7, 2018)

Welcome back to Mari's great backlog crisis! To squeeze in some life updates, I changed from full time work to part time work, so I'm working double time right now to catch up with all my backlogs. Again, to my dear readers and brand partners, very sorry for all the delays!

Moving forward though, I thought I'd do a quick blog post on Canon's event last February. They launched their Pixma G series printers as well as their BLISS crusade. BLISS stands for Borderless, Limitless, In Service Satisfaction. Borderless and limitless are of course the more obvious parts as the Pixma G series printers make borderless print outs, and can print up to 12000 sheets per ink refill, hence limitless. As for service satisfaction, Canon has already implemented a customer friendly system of home pickups and deliveries for repairs or servicing. In general, even out of G series, they really try to find ways to make repairs less tedious. My Canon printer broke earlier this year, and while I did have to bring it to the McKinley repair center, I had it delivered to my house with no extra cost from the transaction fee charged from me. It's the little things like these that make life blissful (no pun intended), because realistically, printers, like all other devices, will experience problems after extensive wear and tear. We don't think about it at purchase point, but in reality, the aftercare and the service matters a lot for gadgets like printers.

Beauty News: L'Oréal FWIS 2018 National Fellow is Dr. Charissa Ferrera

Tackling the greatest challenges of the Agenda for Sustainable Development, will depend on harnessing all talent, and today, more than ever, science and gender equality are equally vital to drive sustainable development. Despite this truth, women account for only 30% of the world’s researchers, and with even lower percentages at higher decision-making levels.

In response, L’Oréal and UNESCO founded the For Women in Science(FWIS) program in 1998 with the mission to empower more women in the field of sciences by increasing the number of women in scientific research, promoting more young women to enter the profession, and to assist them once their careers are in progress.

Since the launch of FWIS, the program has supported more than 3,100 women scientists from 117 countries, and celebrated 102 renowned scientists at the peak of their careers including three who have won a Nobel Prize.  The program has increased the visibility, career opportunities, and self-confidence of women scientists across the world. The Philippines has had the privilege of seeing Dr. Lourdes Cruz win as a Global Laureate (2010) for her work with snail toxins, and has had four Filipina scientists awarded as National Fellows (2011 and 2012).

June 5, 2018 marks a milestone for the Philippines as FWIS celebrates the return of the program in the Country through the awarding of the newest FWIS National Fellow. The program’s return to the Philippines cements L’Oréal’s strong commitment to pushing women empowerment and leadership in science in the Philippines. “The L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science program was founded with the mission to ensure that critical research across various fields in science takes full advantage of the intelligence, creativity, and passion of women,” shares Ms. Carmel Valencia, Corporate Communications Manager of L’Oréal Philippines.

"We have been immensely proud of the work of our Laureates, Fellows and all the awardees across various fields, each proving to be vital in contributing towards sustainable economic growth, social development, and environmental sustainability. They all serve as testament to our belief that women in science truly have the power to change the world,” she asserts.

More than just an awarding ceremony, the forum tackled the multifaceted challenges of gender inequality in the field of science, recognized women’s contributions across various fields, and underscored the critical need for their full participation in driving the sustainable development agenda.

To solidify their commitment to drive increased women participation and success in the field of science, a six-point manifesto was signed by representatives from L’Oréal, UNESCO, National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST), and the scientific community.

The forum also featured distinguished panel speakers and women leaders from the scientific moderated by Ms. Rina Jimenez-David including Dr. Didith Rodrigo, Scientist and Author of “Women in Science” Children’s Books; Dr. Marieta Sumagaysay, Executive Director, National Research Council of the Philippines; and Dr. Laura David, FWIS Philippines National Fellow 2011; and Dr. Aletta Yñiguez, FWIS Philippines National Fellow 2012, to name a few. Each shared on their experiences as Filipina scientists and the opportunities that they see for more thought-leaders in the community. Through the discussion, it is L’Oréal’s and UNESCO’s hope to encourage visibility on the challenges and breakthroughs of Filipina scientists and push more sectors to provide support.

In its first year back, FWIS awarded one outstanding woman scientist who is leading with her study in chemical oceanography. Dr. Charissa Ferrera is recognized as the FWIS Philippines National Fellow 2018. With a relevant and timely research on the water quality in coastal areas and fishing localities particularly Bolinao and Anda, Dr. Ferrera pushes for sustainable mariculture by advocating to help communities recover from effects of pollution through effective science communication.

“I see my win as an opportunity to create a ripple effect that will allow for more individuals to be inspired to pursue careers in science,” shares Dr. Ferrera on winning the fellowship. As a woman who dared to ask, she hopes to encourage women who want to become researchers to stay motivated. “Look for opportunities because they are there and do not be afraid to ask. Always go for what you want and keep going no matter the circumstances,” advised Dr. Ferrera.

Beauty News: Fun In The Sun with KojieSan Sun Products!

Have fun in the sun but be kind to your skin—the Sun Patrol is watching

The summer heat is on full effect! Time to get out there, get that golden tan in your most stunning summer threads, and sit back with a nice cold refreshing beverage in hand. Pretty sight, isn't it?
However, while the sun, sea, sand, and breeze collectively paint an amazing imagery of summer, one could also imagine how these elements can damage the skin when exposed without protection.

Have you ever stepped outdoors without any sun protection? You'd be surprised a lot of people are guilty of this. While we all dread the signs of aging, most of us don't make an effort to be kind to our skin.

Some might say they actually protect their skin by using sunblock. But probably the important question to ask is, are you doing enough and are you doing it right?

Have you ever gone out of the house without an SPF of at least 30? Do you apply sun protection only on your face and neglect the other exposed parts of your body? Do you forget to reapply sunscreen every two hours? Do you apply less than a pea- sized amount of sunblock on your face?

If you answered YES to these, then you are committing serious violations against your skin.
Better be on the lookout then because The Kojie•san Sunblock Sun Patrol is watching to see if you commit more skin care violations and they could make a Citizen’s Arrest! Before they get to you though, you've got to make sure you know a couple of things.

A variety of factors can cause damage to your skin but the biggest culprit is sun exposure! The sun’s ultraviolet rays break down collagen and elastin, making the skin rough and uneven. These rays also affect the melanocytes, which have something to do with the skin’s pigmentation.
What’s worse is that when your skin ages prematurely due to unprotected sun exposure—you can get wrinkles, brown spots and even skin cancer!

What can you do to prevent this? Stay out of the sun during the middle of the day when the sun’s rays are strongest, wear protective clothing such as hats and umbrellas and use a broad-spectrum sunscreen, which protect against both UVA and UVB rays, with a sun protection factor of 30 or higher. And yes, before the Kojie•san Sun Patrol makes another Citizen’s Arrest—don’t forget to reapply every two hours for maximum protection.

Kojie•san Sunblock is the only sun care brand in the Philippines with Sunactyl, which helps relieve and repair skin from sun damages caused by sun exposure.
Sunactyl protects the skin against UVA and UVB damage through the glutathione system. It also fights UV-stress and heat-stress.

The products include Kojie•san Sunblock SPF 69 PA+++; Kojie•san Sunblock Face SPF 50 PA+++; Kojie•san Sunscreen SPF 55 PA+++ with Lightening; Kojie•san Sunblock Sport SPF 50 PA+++; Kojie•san Before Sunspray SPF 50; Kojie•san After Sunspray and Kojie•san Kids SPF 30 and SPF 50.

All Kojie•san Sunblock products have broad-spectrum protection against harmful UVA and UVB rays to prevent sunburn and premature skin aging

So don’t be afraid to go out in the sun and enjoy the beach and indulge in other outdoor activities. But make sure to slather on your Kojie•san Sunblock because the Kojie•san Sun Patrol is ready to make a Citizen’s Arrest anytime you commit a skin crime. If you want to know more about this, go to the @kojiesansunblockph Facebook page.

Beauty News: Achieve your #Hairgoals with Watsons!

"Beware of her fair hair, for she excels. All women in the magic of her locks; And when she winds them round a young man's neck, she will never set him free again."--Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Whether it's hair color, styling, or simply the way it blows in the wind, a woman's hair is her source of power and confidence.

Everyone wants in on what's in when it comes to cuts and styles. Filipino women in particular are bold and experimental when it comes to their haircut, but talk about hair coloring and they still tend to be conservative and reluctant to take that leap into more daring hair tones. Also, there is less involvement in hair treatment as it is considered a "fix" to an already existing damage rather than a way of preventing it. But that needs to change.

Watsons is here to help women achieve their #Hairgoals with a wide selection of hair care products from color to treatment. Got that hair color you've always wanted? Watsons says, "Go for it"! Play around with different shades of red (hot to fiery), browns (subtle to striking), blonde (sexy to bombshell), and pastel color (fun to out-of-this-world)! At Watsons, we've got just the products like Revlon, Revia, Bigen, Liese, Kolours, Beautylabo, LOreal Excellence, Naturtint and Lolane, to make your hair color dreams come true. Thinking of a new hairstyle? Go right ahead, girl! They say a new hairstyle can actually alter your outlook in life. Plus, depending on the cut, this might even highlight your good facial features. To amp it up, you can use products like Vitress, which you can use to style and smoothen your hair everyday. DOVE Invigorating Dry Shampoo, is also a good must-have to create volume on your hair. And if you are sporting a style you want to last for the whole day, finish it off with a TRESemme Freeze Hold Hairspray.

Tip: Don't wait until your hair sounds the damage alarm before you take extra care of it. Treat your hair on a daily basis and your hair will surely thank you for it. Use hair treatment products like Silk Secrets and Lolane Intense Care Treatment, to keep hair out of harm's way. You can also use a more potent conditioner such as Creamsilk’s Triple Keratin Active to help bring back the vibrance of your hair. Having healthy, good-looking hair unlocks that vibe of confidence. Watsons, with an extensive line of hair color, styling, and treatment products available in-store, makes your #Hairgoals happen.

So come drop by! Or you can conveniently shop from the comforts of your home via http://www.watsons.com.ph! Here's your chance to finally plunge into hair coloring! May 26 is Color Your Hair Day! Get 50% off on participating Hair Color products for 100% awesome looks. If you're a SMAC member, your P500 single-receipt purchase of any participating products allows you to earn 1 E-raffle entry that gives you the chance to win up to 100,000 bonus points!

Mediheal Launch Event + BTS Collaboration (March 20, 2018)

Flatlay of Limited Edition BTS X Mediheal Mask Sheets
YAAAAAAAAS!!! Mediheal is reaaaally reaaaally here! BTS' favorite mask brand is truly here!

I dunno, but a few months back before this day, it was really not that easy to be able to visualize having BTS themed merchandise in stores, let alone have something that they endorse. I dunno why, but the Philippine distributors of everything they endorse don't seem to be using their promotional materials. But not for Mediheal! They're giving fangirls a heart attack as they brought in the whole range of mask sheets that BTS loves, as well as the special collaboration boxes!

This event was the launch of the brand in the country. And yes, this is still part of Mari's great backlog crisis of 2018.

Welcome back to Mari's great 2017-2018 backlog crisis!!! HUHU I was suuuper excited to post about this launch as I was able to see a lot of vlogger friends after a long time. But I got reaaally busy with work, rushing lots of things. This is how this backlog came to be.

But before I narrate the whoooole beginning of my backlog, here we are at Ra and Gowoori's grand launch! They rented out TriNoma's 4th floor activity area (near the cinema) for this event. Just to clarify, this launch is to launch the brand's arrival in the Philippines, but it will not have a shop at TriNoma's 4th floor.

The First Crate Conversations (February 28, 2018)

Joanna Ongpin Duarte Speaks At Crate And Barrel With Host
Joanna Ongpin Duarte Speaks at Crate Conversations at Crate and Barrel

The first Crate Conversations! Joanna Ongpin Duarte shares her knowledge on the real estate industry as well as her various learnings from life and from being a mother.

I read recently at a magazine that architecture is what makes the shell of a place, but it is interior design that gives it its soul. As a business that works to give soul to tons of homes and offices, Crate and Barrel has been working towards giving hope and the means to provide more meaningful lives to various charities. This is why they started their Crate Gives Back series. Of course, we all need to learn from different people to nourish our souls, eh? This is why Crate Gives Back is often accompanied with Crate Conversations, where they collaborate with the who's who in the upper echelons for value adding life talks. As for customers, on Crate Gives Back days, you can enjoy 20% off on originally priced items.

This first one was at Crate and Barrel SM AURA last February 28, 2018. I know, I'm so sorry, this is part of Mari's great 2017-2018 backlog crisis, and I know that my backlog crisis already needs its Wikipedia.

Beauty News: #HeadOnHairStrong with Cream Silk Hair Fall Defense

Let’s face it, ladies: as much as we’d like to admit otherwise, we’ve all experienced that feeling of panic as we stare at our hairbrushes and see all the strands that used to be on our heads. Every day, our locks are subject to numerous elements that lead to hair fall. The heat of the sun, pollution, and even washing and styling play a big role in making our tresses more prone to breaking and falling.

With the many challenges that women already face every day, hair fall should not be one of them. With Cream Silk Hair Fall Defense, hair can be kept strong to help prevent hairfall* due to breakage. Now formulated with Break-Shield Complex, it is specially designed to make weak and brittle hair more resilient from root to tip. Cream Silk Fresh Hydration Conditioner Review

Cream Silk Fresh Hydration Conditioner Review Flatlay
Cream Silk Fresh Hydration Conditioner
What?! This is just my second review of the year?! Yes, even I am so sad!!! I have been so busy with work as of late, that even if I wanted to, I just couldn't keep blogging activities at usual pace (that of course includes reviews). I'm actually still working double time on my flatlay backlog, so I'm really sorry for the inactivity in the past few months. I really feel so bad about it!

In dealing with all these backlogs, for the past month, or even longer, I have been spending long hours in my hot work room writing, shooting, and editing. I do have an AC unit in my work room, but given that it's soooo hot 24/7, it's just not possible to open the AC for all the times it's hot. Our electricity bill would skyrocket if I tuned it on all the time! In short, I think it's safe to say that after 3 weeks of using Cream Silk's Fresh Hydration conditioner in such conditions, it's safe enough to give a verdict now.

Of course, off the bat, this is an exciting addition to the family for Elisse and McLisse fans alike. Though this is a limited edition item, this is promising because this is Elisse Joson's first hair endorsement as far as I know, and for your first endorsement to be Cream Silk, it sure does feel good. For die hard fans, and for mortals like me enthralled by her goddess like beauty, this is hopefully a good sign that we'll be seeing more of her in Cream Silk product stickers and tubes once the limited edition run of this conditioner is up.
