Maybelline FitMe! Dewy + Smooth SPF23 Foundation (115-Ivory) Review

Welcome to another episode of #FoundationFridays!!!

Today I am featuring another foundation which I have been generally obsessed about for quite some time now. I got this bottle of Maybelline FitMe! Dewy + Smooth Foundation last year, and I put it to several road tests, and I loved it. Now I feel like it's the right time to be featuring this foundation, as we have been becoming more obsessed with Korean dewy finish products and this entire concept of glass skin. This post is for the shade 115 Ivory

Overall Feedback:
Maybelline FitMe! Dewy + Smooth Foundation is the ideal choice for the people who have fallen in love with the FitMe! Matte + Poreless foundation that is known to last all day, but are looking for a K-beauty dewy finish. The TL;DR is that this foundation has a dewy finish, but lasts long enough in our hot climate like the Matte + Poreless one.

This foundation has a dewy finish that's just right for our tastes and our hot climate. It's dewy, but not as dewy as some Korean releases which may come off as oily already. This also has the right amount of dewiness that it still works for our hot climate, provided that one will retouch with powder throughout the day. I have only used this foundation thus far in the Philippines, so I cannot gauge how this will fare in cold winters or hot Japanese summers.

The texture is liquid, generally wispy and thin, and sets into a flexible satin-feel finish. It feels satiny to the touch in spite of having a dewy and glowy appearance from afar. This comes with buildable coverage from very light to medium-deep, but this is not the foundation I'd recommend for those looking for full coverage. When I use this foundation, I usually use a kabuki brush and apply one pump, and then usually follow up with one more pump on areas where I feel needs more coverage. And then I use concealer on the areas that need heavy areas like acne scars and other dark spots. With this finish and coverage, it looks really natural and has no mask-like appearance, making it ideal for everyday use.

I do feel that there have to be some powder pigments in this for it to be able to set into a satin flexible finish. In terms of lasting power, this generally lasts long, but not as long as the Matte + Poreless one. That's the only weakness of this product. Matte + Poreless can stay put with powder retouches from the time you put it until you wipe it off, and can be forgiving even after 12 hours. For this foundation, this is more or less maxed out at 10 hours, with some visible fading at that point. I still consider it as long-lasting as it manages to not look greasy even after a long time. I have used this at a wedding and the makeup lasted from like 7AM to 12MN, which really impressed me, but I have to note that I was in an air-conditioned area the whole day. If you will be at a place with no air-conditioning, it's best to use this for occasions that won't go over 8 hours. This is because there is fading at oilier areas of your face after about 7 hours or so, or within 4-5 hours if it's really hot. For best results, I like to use this with a finely milled setting powder, as really thick powder foundations tend to make this cake and wear off quickly.

The shade selection seems to keep on changing, but the last I checked, there were 11 shades at Shopee, all selected for Filipina skin tones. 115 is one of the lightest shades, and the deepest shade I saw is 235. Most Filipinas I know usually are shade 220 or plus-minus one to two shades, so this thankfully covers a lot of people. But for those who are relying heavily on the 300+ series from Matte + Poreless, I understand that it can be frustrating that they did not bring in shades from that depth range. I'm just thinking aloud, but maybe they have a lighter shade range for this one to target foreigners in the Philippines.

At Php399 for 30mL, this is probably the most affordable good dewy foundation out there. Most base makeup products with good dewy finishes are probably twice or thrice the price. This is holy grail status for me because it's got the dewy finish I'm looking for in base makeup now, but lasts well enough in our weather. This has the right coverage and finish for my own tastes, which is why I highly recommend this. I actually recommend this more than the Matte + Poreless one now hahaha.

This was another photo shot at about 7PM of the same day, and my makeup was still more or less fine! It stayed fine until the end of the festivities at midnight.
