Maybelline Velvet Matte (Mat 8) Review and Swatches

Happy Halloween! And yes, since it's Halloween, I'm gonna be doing a review of the most whimsical Velvet Matte shade of all! This is Maybelline Velvet Matte in Mat 8. I find this the most whimsical color because it's literally like tomato sauce or chili sauce or ketchup. It honestly felt like I was applying ketchup on my lips when I was using this hahaha...

Perhaps the motto of my life is "make it happen." And I guess Maybel Williams' life, too?

Avène Gentle Milk Cleanser Review

I'm not into cleansers that are unscented, which is why I love this lightly scented one from Avène. You may have seen them invite me to their event awhile back. This is one of the products they sent us home with.

Banila Co Clean It 0 Radiance Review (Holy Grail Product)

Do you hear of the saying that the best businesses are those businesses that can create products that you never knew you needed, but end up needing badly after all? That's perhaps what Banila Co is. It's really talented in creating products that are so useful and yet these are so unique that people don't even realize at first that they badly need them.

And yes, their Clean It 0 is one of those products. I honestly never knew I'd love it when I received it because it's basically just a makeup remover. I already have a lot of makeup removers, be it oil removers, dual phase removers, cream removers, and micelle water removers. I honestly wouldn't need any new kind, right?

Wrong. After using this wax formula, I can't live without it anymore.

Beauty News: Etude House Philippines' Fight Against Counterfeits

Hi friends! This is more of a snappy post brought to you by Etude House Philippines. AGC, the  distributor of Etude House here, has long been battling online sellers who sell fake products. In the first place, even if one is selling authentic products, it is in legal violation of AGC's status as the sole and official distributor of Etude House products in the Philippines. But what's worse is that a lot of sellers sell fake products. Before AGC can even import any Etude House product for sale here, they have to go through stringent clearances and approvals from the FDA--Etude House Korea goes as far as to reformulate a product just to get rid of ingredients not allowed here in the Philippines. This is why it pains them to see so many people willingly harming themselves with fake products when they are making extreme efforts to make the products safe for Pinoys to use.

AGC does not want consumers to suffer with the consequences of using fake Etude House products, and has been making a concrete effort since its introduction of Etude House to the Philippines to increase the number of branches and certified online resellers to make authentic products accessible to the populace.

Here is their statement with regards to the issue:
"We have not consented to any sale of such products by and and is not in any way connected with the website and therefore cannot guarantee the authenticity and/or genuineness of the product sold by the said website.

In connection with this, Rosa Fiore House Corporation had filed criminal charges against the responsible corporate officers of for violations of Sections 155, 168 and 169 of the Intellectual Property Code due to the selling and/or facilitating the sale of fake and/or counterfeit Etude House of Korea product before the Office of the City Prosecutor of Makati which had been docketed as NPS DOCKET NO. XV-05-INV-15G2846."

Maybelline Bold Matte (Mat 5- Red) Review

Hi everyone! I miss giving lipstick reviews so here I am again with another one! This lipstick is Maybelline's Bold Matte in shade Mat 5, or red. This is something I'd consider as a very neutral red without a lot of undertones. It has an tiny little blue undertone, but it's still leaning towards the neutral.

Pond's Flawless White Dewy Rose Gel Review

The best products are those that can disrupt the industry, just as how the best businesses are those that can change the way the world goes. And this is one of them. I must admit how smitten I am by Pond's Dewy Rose Gel because it's one of the things that they made that really caters to the needs of Pinays.

First is the need for very fragrant products. For some reason, every single thing that a Pinoy uses must smell good, be it baby powder, soap, lotion, or whatnot. More so on the haircare products. This is why this "rose" smelling joy is a blessing for many.

Second is the need for products that are lightweight and not distracting to the feel once you've gone through half the day. No one wants their cream, nor their makeup, to be melting in the middle of the day. The gel format is another blessing to the inhabitants of this country.

I wanted to try the product out first before buying the full sized version which is why I got this trial pack (and no this is not a free sample there really is a trial size in stores).

This boasts its Rose Lumieère complex for intense hydrating and whitening GenActiv technology for whitening and lightening.

For the benefit of everyone, here are the ingredients. I like the fact that the fragrance is somewhere in the middle and not in the end because I really appreciated how long lasting the fragrance of the product is.

The preservative is DMDM Hydantoin. I know it's controversial as it's a formaldehyde releaser and I have seen Yahoo! answers questions of people going ballistic that formaldehyde should not go near the body in any manner at all. But well, relax. It's a formaldehyde releaser, it's not formaldehyde itself. Second, look back at the function of formaldehyde-- it's used to prevent decay through curbing the reproduction of unwanted microorganisms. I'd rather have a product with a little formaldehyde (and by little I mean by the standards of this cream I'd probably have to use 1000000 tubs of this gel in one sitting before it actually even does any harm), rather than suffer from a difficult to treat infection because of not having any chemicals kill off the bad bacteria that may get into the product in the span of use.

But, if you are allergic to formaldehyde, please do not use this product to avoid any complications.

The product comes with a safety sticker on top of it. Please be wary of the safety sticker when buying, just in case.

This is the tub itself. It's tiny. Very tiny. It's as big as a ping pong ball, or even a bit smaller actually hahahaha.

The moment you unscrew the lid, there's another protective cover. Since this is gel format, it dries faster than cream format and may dry up within the tub if not covered properly.

This is how the lid and the product look like.

The amusing part is that the gel is a translucent pink color with hologram effect. My apologies that it does not appear in the photos, but it's got a pearly color, actually.

It's got a consistency that it stands up on its own, and it's not runny, but you can feel that this is not as heavy as the usual cream.

When you apply it onto the skin it actually feels borderline water because it spreads really fast, and a little amount spreads a lot. You can save a lot of money with this product because its spread is so wide that even this trial tube can last someone a month.

It disappears quickly, too. The best feature this product has, if you ask me, is how it absorbs so quickly that in the Philippine heat it wouldn't melt off your skin before your skin could even absorb the nutrients. This may mean applying more product at times because despite its spread, the absorbency of the skin of this product happens so quickly that if you don't smear it on fast enough, the next thing you know your skin has already absorbed everything. I appreciated this feature a lot because it's always a struggle to apply products on the face during daytime as the hot climate makes any cream drip off the face. I usually have to apply products at night just so that I could really absorb the ingredients. But with this gel, I can apply it at any time of the day I wish to do so.
The other thing I love is the fragrance! It smells really nice and perky and will cheer up any mood. But funnily, while this is supposedly rose scent, it actually smells a lot like how aromatherapy stores render green tea. It's a gentle scent and will surely not offend the nose, but the fragrance is lasting enough that even moments after applying the gel you'd still be able to sniff whiffs of the fragrance.

Plus, I love how gentle it is. There are products that I cannot use when I have pimples and breakouts, but this product is gentle and light enough that even in my times of breakouts, I can afford to use this without exacerbating the situation.

It gives me the moisture I need without making my skin too oily that my pimples and up worsening. My skin is very, very oily, so any product that doesn't oil up a lot on my skin is already considered very good.

But I have yet to see this actually whiten my skin hahahaha. My skin is already at the point where all topical products usually do not work anymore. It does give me a dewy, rosy glow, but I haven't really seen any significant whitening for me to report here...

Nonetheless, for an industry-disrupting format that this product has, it's already very affordable at Php149 for this 10g tub, and Php399 for a 50g tub. I do recommend getting the bigger tub, though, because it packs more value for money. You can get this from personal care stores nationwide and through Pond's Official Lazada Store

Lux Magical Spell Review

Bathe with perfume! Bathe with Lux! IT'S FINALLY BAAACK, Y'ALL!!! I am really very happy that Unilever decided to bring Lux back because it's one of the brands that makes the best body washes ever. I remember that my most favorite body wash was one small Lux one that my aunt gifted you. I loved the fragrance so much it got to the point I was using half what my body actually needed just so I could prolong using the product as there's barely any place that sold Lux here. For quite some time, you can only find Lux in Chinatown delis, or in small beauty retailers that sold imported knick knacks from all over Asia.

I have no idea how this is supposedly Unilever's redemption, but it felt like mine. When I was buying this in the supermarket near our place, I was like yaaaaaas I don't need to suffer with half-dosages of body wash because I can flood myself with so many Lux products now.

Hello again, friends! I have here with me a long overdue post! Veet contacted me May 2014 to ask if I wanted a kit from them, and I said why not? I got the kit February 2015, and it's only now I get to talk about this. No, Veet people, I'm not trying to plot revenge for the time gap. I really just got super busy since January that it's only been last month that I was able to pay more attention to my blog. Sorry again for the delays! Anyways, let me show you the box's contents now!

Dove Go Fresh Nourishment Cucumber and Green Tea Lotion Review

Deep nourishment for only Php170! I am super happy with Dove this year because of all their product launches. They brought in a lot of new and exciting stuff and deviated from just renewing and renewing campaigns. They have had Oxygen and Nourishment as one of their key hair releases this year, and as I type this review I feel like I'm in Hawaii because I'm right beside my newly purchased Dove coconut milk and shea butter bars! Bwhahaha. But today's review will be all about their new go fresh nourishment body lotion.

Matrix 8" Cut For Cancer Event (Sept. 19, 2015)

Hi everyone! It took me quite some time before I was able to come back to you guys with a formal blog coverage of Matrix's 8" Cut for Cancer Year 2!

For those of you guys who are curious, there was a massive event at SM Megamall's atrium wherein they had a maaaasssive set up for a hundred hairstylists to be able to cut hair from participants. Participants who came over had at least 8 inches cut off of their hair, and the hair donated was to be made into wigs. The donation of the wigs was done through Matrix's 'Chairs of Change' initiative-- their own advocacy to empower hairstylists worldwide to make a change to the world and uplift the lives of people through their craft. The wigs that will be made will be donated to Kythe-Ateneo, and they will be donating the wigs to their current charities (they have a roster of hospitals that they serve) as well as other hospitals whose patients are in need of such items.

I was actually very touched by the very long lines because it shows how much people were very interested in donating their hair. And while having their hair cut on this day warrants them a free haircut, no one will randomly go out for an 8 inch cut without actually having a very heavy cause behind it. I know that most, if not all, of the participants who came, came with the mission to make a difference in someone else's life through their actions.

Today's host was Divine Lee, standing on the right. And Saab and Maxene came over to congratulate Matrix, and to thank and applaud all the volunteer hairstylists from David's Salon who came over and shared their talents for free!

I don't think Saab is alone, because a lot of people were really watching the event unfolding because of how meaningful it was. And the hairstylists were really so busy at work that you really know how passionate are about this cause, too.

This is the photo op area. I love how this event was not just a mere hair collection drive. They had a properly organized photobooth area for a participant's before and after look, and after their photos were taken, their before and after shots were collated into a special photo print out as a souvenir for them to keep.

And this is the giant hair weighing scale. This was actually amusing to look at because the numbers would change quickly as so many ponytails were pouring in.

Another reason why I knew that the people who were here were not in it for the free haircut was because at least 90% of the participants had extremely beautiful hair! Do you have a friend who has had extremely long and beautiful hair like a horse's tail since the dawn of time? Imagine that friend times 300 and that's the kind of crowd that this event had. Given how nice their hair conditions were, it's extremely apparent that they're not here merely to get rid of split ends or damaged hair.

I mean look at her hair! This is shampoo commercial levels of great!

The Magalona sisters were most certainly not selfish with selfies that day. They were game to pose with everyone. This is their photo with David's Salon executives.

And they also got busy snapping away.

Apparently, they also gave out these coloring sheets in the waiting area for people to color on and write dedications on! These messages of encouragement will hopefully be given to the wigs' recipients.

The Magalona sisters wasted no time in personally thanking the hairstylists and taking photos with them. That I'm sure of.

One of the most touching things about the whole event was that the event was not limited to girls. I saw some guys in line, too! One of them is Domz. He donated his hair in honor of his mother.

I am sure that whoever receives the wig made from his hair will be soooo happy because he donated 16 inches of beautiful, shiny hair!

And yes! Domz is not the only guy here! I wasn't able to catch his name, but here's another guy getting his before photo taken.

And here's the before and after photo souvenir I was talking about! It's really nice with how the participants can take something like this home.

The event was amusing to see, more so from the upper floors. It was a sea of red capes and blackened floor with all the hair flying around. If you look at the terrace, you'd see this guy carrying a computer tower. I was amused because he and his companions were staring at the set up for about a good five minutes, and yes he was holding the tower the whole time. All his companions had short hair so they were probably setting a new goal to grow all their hair so they could donate it to future events like this.

And yes! IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO PARTICIPATE! You can still join this advocacy! From September 20, 2015 to December 31, 2015, you may either send in your hair donation to the Matrix Philippines Office (Mezzanine Floor, Robinson’s Equitable Tower, ADB Avenue, Ortigas Center, Pasig City) or have your stylish haircut as donation continues in David’s Salon branches in Metro Manila and nearby provinces. Regular hair cut charges will apply. For more information about the campaign, please visit
