Bohktoh False Eyelash (S-1) Review (Holy Grail Product)

I swear, these falsies brought me back into the falsies legion!!!

You see, as a teen, I was very interested in reading beauty blogs, and was interested in experimenting with a lot of makeup. Falsies would often be an integral part of my look as a teen, and believe it or not, I can say for sure that I was more patient with doing intricate makeup looks as a teen hahaha. But well, this is the Philippines, and people are so "natural" obsessed. I have encountered many instances of makeup shaming in my teens due to wearing false eyelashes.

It's been many years and the makeup shaming from the people around me is only slowing starting to die down now. People are already aware that I am a beauty blogger and that I work with many brands. Now that the concept of work has been brought into the picture has it only become normal for me to experiment with makeup. Well the weirdness of why working with beauty brands needs to be the gatepass for me to wear false eyelashes deserves its own article, but for now, I'll leave it here.

My false lashes from waaay back have always been pretty. Even now, they're still relevant. But they have long, thick hair strands arranged in such a lush manner that putting them on is like putting on more eyeliner and eyeshadow. I think I was likened to Lady Gaga in a bad way at some point. I love Lady Gaga so much, but I know that the commenter came from a mindset of insult, so it wasn't good.

Beige Chuu Newborn Cushion (Light Pink) Review and Swatches

Finallyyyy, I'm doing my first ever legit Chuu review!!! You may have seen my Chuu collection post, so finally here's a legit review. Since going to Korea for Charis' Beautiful Journey last September, I've been entertaining a lot of backlogs, which is why my reviews of the items I took home aren't that plentiful yet.

I'm slowly filling the gaps, one at a time! So yaaay let's get started with this review. This is Beige Chuu's cushion. This cushion's claim to fame is that it has niacinamide, sea water, and hydrolyzed collagen. These all help to combat what they call D.O. skin, or dehydrated oily skin. Their philosophy is that skin can be dehydrated and oily at the same time, hence the caking and blotching of makeup. Their goal is to create a product to address that for skin as smooth as a newborn's!

Céleteque Eyeshadow Palette (Smokey Grey) Review and Swatches

For those who like doing smokey eye looks, you will surely like this quad! The usual brand churns out too many shimmery black colors that the end result is an eyelid that looks oily and dirty. And then with matte eyeshadows, the problem is pigmentation during blending. With this palette, it's matte so it doesn't look oily or dirty, and the colors are pigmented and cling well to the skin, so you can achieve the drama that you want with relatively little effort.

Céleteque Eyeshadow Palette (Warm Brown) Review and Swatches

Yaaay, so today is yet another rave episode for Céleteque's eyeshadow quads!!! I am just soo happy with the quality of this collection overall, and I'm super happy about owning all the shades! Owning the three quads is like buying 9 new professional quality matte shades. So buttery and easy to work with!

This is yet another quad that my mom loves so much because it has all the warm browns that most people are likely to use everyday. In general, I find these shades to be quite unique given that most brands explore the mahogany side to browns, not so much the sienna shades like these.

So let's get started with this review!

Céleteque Eyeshadow Palette (Pink Orchid) Review and Swatches

I never thought it was possible for a dermocosmetic brand to come up with an eyeshadow this good, but it's apparently possible!!! I don't know if it's just me, but I usually feel that dermocosmetic brands cater to the niche markets, or the people who cannot use other brands. Be it due to allergies, eczema, or other sources of skin sensitivity, the usual client is trying these brands out because of those reasons. I was initially skeptical that a hypoallergenic eyeshadow offering made for sensitive skin would be chalky, unpigmented, and basically boring. But I was proven very, very wrong. These eyeshadows are mindblowingly pigmented and buttery that they can compete against mainstream brands and win.

I am so happy to be sharing my delight with Céleteque's eyeshadow quads! They came up with three matte loaded quads that will prove to be very useful for everyone. Ever since my mom tried these, she happily uses these quads everyday. She, too, never thought that someone with extremely sensitive skin like her could still slay her eyeshadow game without fear of excessive fallout or adverse skin reactions. This Pink Orchid quad is my mom's favorite one.

Life News: UPV's Team Maxim is L'Oréal Brandstorm 2017 Philippine National Champion

Manila, 2017 – Faced with a battle of skill and talent to create the most innovate new product and integrated marketing campaign against over 400 hundred teams from across the country, Team Maxim from the University of the Philippines Visayas emerged as the Philippine champion at the L’Oréal Brandstorm National Finals winning the Best Marketing Communication Plan Special Award as well. The event was held at the L'Oréal Academie on April 18. Team Hustle from Ateneo de Manila University came in a close second, followed by Team Champs from University of the Philippines Diliman in third place. This year’s National Winners take home a P50,000 in cash, P20,000 worth of products for their mentor Tessa Albaña, and P3,000 worth of products for the team.  They move onto the L’Oreal Brandstorm Asia-Pacific Regional Finals on May 5.

Winning the National Finals is just half the winning team’s Brandstorm journey as they represent the Philippines at the Asia-Pacific Regional Finals in May, and hopefully move on to the international competition in June in Paris, France.  Beyond competing with teams all over the world for the coveted title of Brandstorm International Champions and a cash prize of 10,000 Euros, the International Finals will be an avenue for the students to immerse themselves in L’Oréal’s culture right where it begins – at the L’Oréal Headquarters. At the International Finals, an innovation fair will also be hosted by L’Oréal to give both students and professors a chance to exchange ideas with all the teams coming in from across the globe.

Five other student teams also saw action in the April 18 National Finals:  Team L’OLreal and Team Y3 from the University of the Philippines Diliman , Team iWill from San Beda College – Mendiola, Team 16°C from Saint Louis University Baguio, and Team Stormbusters from University of the Philippines Visayas.

Now on its 25th year, L’Oreal Brandstorm is the Company’s signature innovation competition that  gives students across the world the opportunity become innovation leaders.

With this year’s partner brand, L’Oréal Men Expert, the World’s No. 1 Skincare Brand for Men, this year’s young fire starters were challenged to recruit millennial men through a new product and breakthrough service that leveraged digital solutions and connected technologies.  From the field of 421 teams, eight Finalists were chosen to battle it out and present their groundbreaking pitches on disrupting the men’s grooming industry.

From 421 teams joining the competition, the 8 finalists comprised of 3 teams from the University of the Philippines Diliman, 2 teams from the University of the Philippines Visayas, and one team each from Ateneo de Manila University, San Beda College – Mendiola and Saint Louis University battled it out and presented their groundbreaking pitches on disrupting the men’s grooming industry.

“We did not expect this and it’s like all our hard work just paid off. We really wanted to show what we can do. Coming to Manila and as one of the Top 8 was already a really amazing experience, and winning this competition is more than we had ever hoped,” explains Team Maxim’s Genevieve Millan.
The team's winning idea focused on giving men more time and more confidence through a liquor-inspired product line which responded to consumer insights. With four innovative products introduced to the market in various channels such as event activations, social media engagement, and mobile application integration, the team presented an integrated marketing campaign that the judges felt best responded to what millennial men need ‘to stay ahead of the game’ while staying true to the spirit of L’Oréal Men Expert.

Brandstorm is more than just an instrument to spot young talents. It’s also a great avenue to incubate ideas of young talents who can be future leaders of the beauty business,” shared Jake Bustos, Brandstorm Project Manager and Campus Manager of L’Oreal Philippines. “This year, Brandstorm Philippines expanded its reach to partner over 20 schools, securing registrations of over 1,520 student players.  This year’s Brandstorm competition in the Philippines is the biggest in Southeast Asia to date.”

4 Life Lessons 4 Years of Beauty Blogging Has Taught Me

Happy 4th Anniversary, Doll Up Mari!
A lot of times I actually can't believe I have been blogging for this long already. I feel like 2013 is just like last year, and I always feel surprised whenever I am reminded that I have been running this blog for four years already. It's actually my fifth year in blogging, but this blog is four years old now. But heck, this blog also feels like it's 5 years old because I produced content for 7 months in 2013, which feels a lot like 1 year...

Of course, blogging, like any other hobby, has its fair share of ups and downs and life lessons to learn from. I normally don't talk about things like this as you will always be bombarded with reviews and tutorials, but I felt like talking about things that go behind those reviews and tutorials. Here I go.

This is what blogging has taught me:

Maybelline Master Strobing Stick (Nude) Review

Sooo awhile back y'all were probably able to read my super happy review over the Master Strobing Cream from Maybelline. This review is over the Master Strobing Stick. This basically is the strobing cream just turned into stick format. There's not a huge difference in the glow it gives.

So yeah let's get the review started!

Moonshot Lip Feat Lipstick (M114-Muse Pink) Review and Swatches + Other Shades (Holy Grail Product)

As of 2017, if I'm not using any of the five shades off of Maybelline's Rosy Mattes, I'm using this lipstick. In less than like 2 months I think I've used up like 30% of this lipstick already. It's THAT good. I'm so addicted to this.

Because in the first place, Moonshot can't rely on its YG branding alone. GD and Dara and BlackPink can only do so much given that the context is Korea and that they have dozens of competitors as big as them, and with even more expertise and stores. And almost all of KPop royalty is endorsing some K-Beauty brand. Given that it's churning out items relatively in the midtier to high end pricing range, the products need to justify the pricing.

I got this from Charis, and since I went with just one lipstick first (as I haven't seen the swatches in real life yet when I placed the order). I looked at the online reviews and made a hunch that Muse Pink must be the muted pink that I want. And wee I'm just soo in love with this shade!

L'Oréal Paris Infallible 10HR Lipstick Review and Swatches

Sorrrryyy this is yet another post that just took waaaay too long!

These are 5 out of the 20 shades available for L'Oréal's Infallible 10HR lipsticks. I'm glad that there are so many other shades to choose from because I'll be honest that while these five shades are very pretty, these aren't the shades I typically wear (aka one of these are light pink hahaha). I was delighted to visit a L'Oréal counter and to discover for myself that this collection indeed harnesses plenty of shades that I like. The quality of this lipstick is unique and worth paying attention to so I'm glad there's a shade for every kind of personality!

L'Oréal Infallible 24HR Foundation Review and Swatch (150-Radiant Beige)

Okaaay so I waited awhile for the whole shbam to die down. This foundation's reviews were sooo polarized that I wanted to be careful with what I said as everyone seems so aggressive with their opinions hahaha. Infallible Pro-Matte is already coming super super super soon (sooner than you think!!! Praise God!!!), and plenty will be too distracted by the much awaited arrival of Pro Matte. This is why I thought that now is finally a safe time to talk about this as people don't have many violent reactions anymore.

L'Oréal Infallible Pro-Matte 16HR Powder Review and Swatch

After a yeaaaar!!! I received my first sample of L'Oréal's Infallible Pro Matte powder in ike March or April last year. Wow I can't believe it took me a year to churn out a review even when I already had a clear verdict and evaluation in my mind over this product hahaha.

So yaaay, let's get down to the review before everything!

Maybelline Master Strobing Cream (Nude) Review and Swatches (Holy Grail Product)

I like how being a blogger means growing with my readers, too. And I think one big change I did in the end of 2016 is to learn how to embrace strobing and tone down the contour. I always thought contouring would never die, until it died before my eyes. The looks that once looked chiseled became dirty looking at a second glance. I was just jolted awake by a cold realization that my makeup looks were in an era that the overdone contour really just looks like dirt. I would scroll down my photos and all I could focus on was the "dirt."

I never learned how to reaaally love strobing till recently because I always thought that strobing would exacerbate the oiliness in my skin. I also did come from makeup school, and in most schools a few years back, the school of thought was to take it easy on the highlighter because too much can make the subject look sweaty or oily under heavy lighting conditions in videos or flash photography. I also always felt that my highlighters just exacerbated my pores and my oiliness until I realized that I was just using the wrong ones. I was initially scared of the crazy bright highlighters for fear that my pores would look worse, until I slowly acquired the standards to judge highlighters with.

This, if you ask me, is the perfect break in period product if you know you need to let go of too much contouring but want something pretty yet controllable as your first highlighter. Say hello to Maybelline's Master Strobing cream. This is nude, and I specified coz there's a pink one, too.

Life News: Brandstorm Finalists vie for a Ticket to Paris

Manila, 2017 – True to its belief to invest in young talents, L’Oréal Philippines once again launches Brandstorm – its signature business competition for students that aims to harness the talent and ideas of young marketers to change the game of the beauty industry. This 2017 marks a milestone especially in the Philippines as the competition goes nationwide with over 1,500 students registering for the competition – an increase of 371% versus the previous years.

The student teams for this year’s Brandstorm were challenged to disrupt the men’s grooming industry with the partner brand, L’Oréal Men Expert, the world’s No. 1 Skincare Brand for Men. With the mission to be a project and talent incubator for students, the Brandstorm journey revolves around accepting diversity and cultivating it to be game-changers.

“L’Oréal Brandstorm has been the best venue for us to incubate ideas and young talents. It gives us a fresh perspective to see the beauty industry in a new light,” shared Tina Ampil, L’Oréal Philippines General Manager for Human Resources. “As we move forward to the journey to Paris, we are making sure that we invest in these the potential students who will represent the Philippines in the international competition.”

From 421 university teams, only 48 have moved forward and competed at the semi-finals coming from different regions in the country, vying to land a spot in the National Finals. Students from University of the Philippines Diliman, Ateneo de Manila University, and San Beda College will be representing Manila.  Each team was entitled to four pillars of learning to help them develop their ideas into full-fledged campaigns that may just win them a ticket to the International Finals happening in Paris. L’Oréal Philippines also provided the teams with E-Learning courses, Brand resource materials, and a L’Oréal mentor.

Out of the 48 teams, the competition is now down to eight (8) coming from different schools all over the country. The 8 teams are as follows:
1 MANILA – Champs  |  University of the Philippines Diliman  |  Richmoune Lavinne Sy, Samantha Ko, Gabriel Herrera-Lim
2 VISAYAS – Maxim  |  University of the Philippines Visayas  |  Herna Alpha Tiagan, Genevieve Millan, Jasper Dioco
3 MANILA – Team Hustle  |  Ateneo de Manila University  |  Janelle Go, Paul Yap, Joanna Patricia Matias
4 MANILA – Team L’OLreal  |  University of the Philippines Diliman  |  Andrew Escay, Ina Badiola, Renz Salindong
5 MANILA – Y3  |  University of the Philippines Diliman  |  Francine Ysobel Sabado, Diego Nepomuceno, Ysabel Miranda
6  BAGUIO - 16°C  |  Saint Louis University  | Nicole Navarrete, Austine Miguelle Ogad, Matthew Mendoza
7 MANILA – iWill  |  San Beda College  | Lindzey Caco, Katrina Grajo, Patricia Faith Bastes
8 VISAYAS – Stormbusters  | University of the Philippines Visayas  | John Joseph Kuan Ken, Stephenie Padojinog, Paolo Gabriel Nabor
These 8 teams will battle it out during the Brandstorm National Finals happening on April 18 at the L’Oréal Académie where one team will be one step closer to representing the Philippines in the International Finals in Paris.

Maybelline The Loaded Bolds + Fit Me + AsNTM Event (April 5, 2017)

Out with the old, in with the bolds! The Loaded Bold Mattes from Maybelline are here! I've been dyiiiing in anticipation for this because I follow Maybelline China's WeChat and Weibo accounts and all they've been talking about the past month or so is The Loaded Bolds. It's not in Hong Kong yet when I went last month, which is why I'm so happy that I'm finally able to catch the collection here on our own shores.

This was also the Q2 meeting for the Maybelline Squad, so aside from learning more about The Loaded Bolds, we were also given a sneak peek on what's coming soon (Read: FIT ME IS COMING TO THE PHILIPPINES THIS YEAR HOAYGASH MAY GULAY MAY PAMILY TELL THE GOVERNOR). Not to mention that Maybelline is going to strengthen and reinforce its brow game with new offerings for every kind of brow problem.  We will be seeing new brow mascaras, special brow pencils, and promade crayons sticks in stores very, very soon!

Maybelline The Loaded Bolds Swatches and First Impressions (All Philippine Shades)

Last Wednesday, I got whisked into a nightclub in broad daylight. Hahaha. I am very amused with what I've been seeing as of late, wherein nightclub owners have been finding themselves exploring business models they never thought they could ever explore. Who would have thought that businesses that could originally only generate revenues at night explore business opportunities in the daytime? Because as far as 2017 is concerned, it's just the start of Q2 but there have already been soooo many events done in nightclubs during the day! Valkyrie and The Palace have also found themselves in a sweet spot because who'd ever think they'd be hotspots for merienda?

But moving forward, having an event in XXXX is the minor piece of information. The major, major piece of information is that The Bold Mattes are here!!! I am still hoping that they would bring in the MLBB's in this collection (like Raging Raisin and Mauve It), but as it stands I am very happy with the Philippine release. This collection is all about mixing and experimenting. The shades are so vivid that you can afford to experiment as the colors don't die out as you add one color to another. Much to my delight, this release has shades that are very visibly discernible from each other. Not a lot of confusion here, so all shades are usable. There are Maybelline collections whose colors are soooo close that you can mix two shades and you'd never know what difference actually occurred.

And gahhh, the shades are crazy. I'm not even trying! I know a lipstick is crazy pigmented when I don't even have to try to get a good swatch. The "One Swipe Intense Matte" promise is sooo true because I really am not exerting any effort to get where I want to get to. Weelll there's that factor that all the shades are like in their purest form (I'll explain), but the texture is also contributing to the ease of use. Since this collection is all about experimenting, one main consumer innovation is that this collection has a white and a black shade for people to be able to water down or intensify their lipsticks as they please. That's why all the other shades are in their purest, not watered down, not darkest form. It's so hard to articulate, but it's like all the shades are in the upper right corner when setting the color charts on Photoshop. The colors are at their most primal, if that even helps hahaha.

Etude House Wonder Fun Park Collection Reviews and Swatches

My first legit blog post since my hiatus! I'm still on vacation mode, but I'm slowly coming back to my usual blogging schedule. I took a hiatus for the past two months to recharge because I was already feeling very demotivated and burned out from the workload and the negativity online. I also wanted to have some time to reflect and reappropriate my time on my experiences with brands. 2016 was filled with plenty of encounters with very abusive brands, so in the past months it's been all about strategizing how to get these brands off of my system. But it was also about how to further my working relationships with the brands who actually do care about me and my craft.

Sooo yaaay, one of the things I excitedly did when we went to HK recently was to take swatches of all swatchable items from Etude House's Wonder Fun Park collection! I know it's just arrived to Philippine stores, so this post is just in time! I reaaaally love this collection and I bought the blush, cheek brush, eye brush, and perfume. I am hoping that I finally get to snag the holo lip gloss here because it was soooooo hyped up in HK it was sold out!

This collection has lip gloss, lipstick, eyeshadow palettes, eyeshadow pigments, blush, highlighter, powder brush, cheek brush, eye brush, perfume, colored mascaras, and nail sets. There's a lot going on, and not all Etude House territories choose to import everything. In HK, there was no powder brush and no eyeshadow pigment singles. I am still slooowly "reintegrating" into society after two months of barely going out (I attended two events in the span of two months compared to the usual two events per week hahaha). So I have yet to see what our territory actually imported!

Anyways, let me share my swatches and thoughts over what I was able to swatch in HK.
