L’Oréal Collection Star Color Riche Matte Reds (All Shades) Review and Swatches

Shade Selection: This is a collection of 8 reds. Just reds. They explored blue reds, brick reds, chili reds, and cherry reds, which is why I am very pleased with the shade selection. I feel that everyone is bound to find a red that is pretty, flattering, and something within their comfort zone.

Color Payoff and Pigmentation: As with other Color Riche lipsticks, and as the name implies, color payoff is crazy good. You only need one swipe to get it the color to be intense. To add, the pigmentation is so rich that even at one swipe, and even if this is a collection full of reds, the differences between each lipstick is still clear, even to most people. I know some people are not very sensitive to very slight differences with lipstick shades, but to people who are even just a bit keen, the differences already show up well, thanks to the rich pigmentation.

Texture: These lipsticks are technically matte, but they’re not a creamy type of matte. Instead, this is a relatively wispy formula texture wise. It doesn’t feel very powdery, as it also isn’t 100% matte. Not unless you blot it or set it with translucent powder, it’s not bound to be 100% matte, despite the label saying it’s matte. This also is why this is a more forgiving collection on dry patches and cracks on the lips.

Comfort: L’Oréal has been popular for coming up with comfortable lipsticks ever since, and this collection is no exception. It doesn’t feel sticky, has no annoying sensation, and moves around a bit just so lips don’t feel too stiff. While this doesn’t have the healing properties of a lip balm per se, it feels relatively moist for a matte lipstick. 

Longevity: This stays put without any food involved. If you’re just going to drink something or brush your teeth, this won’t budge so much, and will stay on for about 3-4 hours on its own. However, if you are to eat something, this is not the type to withstand a lot of oily food. You can expect to need a retouch after every meal.

Value For Money: Each lipstick is Php350, which I think is the right price. L’Oréal is very sensitive to the market and is good at pricing in general. It’s not as expensive as Php1000+++ branded lipsticks out there, but is priced low enough to be an affordable luxury for lots of women. 

Overall Feedback: I liked the collection overall. I liked the concept of having a red for each kind of preference and skin tone. As with other L’Oréal Color Riche lipsticks, I like the texture in general. I come with the acceptance that most lipsticks of the L’Oréal group of brands are comfy but not very long lasting, which is why I’m not disappointed in any way at all.
