Skin Potions Lip Cake Lipstick is the brand's take on a truly matte lipstick that's not drying, with a fruity fragrance, and in shades flattering for every skin tone. Skin Potions has been famous for lots of skincare products, but the brand has been steadily adding more makeup to its roster as well. This review is for the shade Cointreau Crisp

Overall Feedback:
Skin Potions Lip Cake Lipstick promises to be a truly flat matte lipstick that's not drying. The other promise is that the shades are flattering for every skin tone.

Indeed, finish-wise, it lives up to the promise. It's truly matte and really has no visible sheen. It goes on thinly and feels really lightweight on the lips. I often forget that I have it on because it's so lightweight. It's powdery, but not annoyingly powdery that I can awkwardly feel the powder. It's also got a somewhat waxy texture to it. As it goes on really thinly, it doesn't move around so much, but it also doesn't dry and set like a liquid lipstick would.

It's not drying per se, but since my lips are so dry, I feel like I need to use this with lip balm as well. People who do not have dry lips will not have trouble with this, I think, but for someone with really dry lips, this will need to be used with lip balm even if doing so will make it less matte.

The shades really are very sophisticated and very suited for Filipina skin tones. I felt that they had a good selection of mauve based shades, and also a lot of cheerful cherry-red shades. Skin Potions really took a lot of effort to study Filipina tastes and skin tones, and indeed, the shades are the sophistication we expect from a local brand.

However, at the current production run, there still needs to be improvements. The lipsticks have differing textures among shades, as some shades are 'rougher' than the others. The tubes also have inconsistencies in the printing, and some lids have cracked even if these lipsticks are just in my house all the time. The shapes of the lipsticks also have inconsistencies as well. Don't get me wrong, I like these lipsticks enough that I bought them. What I'm just saying is that there are still manufacturing inconsistencies that need to be ironed out so it'll be truly at par with other world-class Filipino makeup brands.

At Php399, for those looking for flat matte lipsticks for shades that work well on Filipina skin tones, this is an ideal choice. The color selection is amazing and definitely will delight everyone. The lightweight texture and flat matte finish are also great. However, I feel that it should iron out the manufacturing inconsistencies of these lipsticks in the next batches.
