Maybelline Superstay Ink Crayon 8HR Longwear Matte Lipstick is the perfect compromise for people who are looking for the lasting power of Maybelline’s Superstay Matte Ink Liquid Lipsticks but want something more lightweight, and more flexible on the lips. 

This has a very unique format in Maybelline’s lip offerings, as it is a solid stick that looks like a lipstick and glides on like a lipstick, but it sets and dries like a liquid lipstick. This also has a very unique texture, as it’s not as powdery like a lot of their other releases (like Creamy Mattes and Powder Mattes). It’s creamy and soft, but not as buttery as other Maybelline lipsticks. As such, this also goes on much thinly compared to other Maybelline lipsticks. 

It does feel a bit sticky as it’s drying, but when it does dry, it feels flexible and breathable like a lipstick. It doesn’t feel hot and heavy either. As someone with dry lips, I already find Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink Liquid Lipsticks bearable, but I appreciate that these Superstay lipsticks are even much more comfortable than the Superstay liquid lipsticks. 

The pigmentation is very good as what we expect from Maybelline, and it doesn’t take much effort to get this lipstick to full opacity. The color payoff is more or less true to what’s on the tube, and the color-matched packaging is also pretty accurate. 

This stays put on the lips quite well, as marketed by the brand. If you will not eat anything, I can definitely see the 8-hour promise coming true. It doesn’t transfer onto mugs when you go for drinks, so it stays on quite well even if you take a lot of water every day like me. However, if you will snack on something, it will fade if you eat something oily. If you feast on something really oily, this will wear off after the meal. In terms of lasting power, of course, the Superstay liquid lipsticks stay put much better. But these Supertsay lipsticks last fairly well enough. 

I love all the colors that have been released thus far, as most are very wearable. These shades are practical additions to any collection. I also appreciate that they added in an internal sharpener with each tube, so that users can always enjoy precise application with freshly sharpened sticks. 

At Php299 for 1.2g, the value for money aspect is a bit tricky to evaluate. It’s 1/3 the mass of the usual Maybelline lipstick, so in an absolute sense, you are really getting less product per tube. However, since it goes on much less thinly than other Maybelline lipsticks and needs fewer reapplications in a day, I also do believe that you are using less product for each day you use this. 

Overall, I highly recommend this range for those who are looking for matte lipsticks that are relatively long-lasting and also relatively comfortable.
